Out of all the BJJ legends that have come through the UFC, nobody’s half guard sweep or single leg comes close to this guy’s. Maia can literally pull you into his guard and reverse you.

Of course he’s old now and he’s been neutralized by some younger hungry elite wrestlers lately but doesn’t change the fact that he’s the most skilled sweep artist that’s ever fought in the UFC.

He could either push or pull. One minute you’re in his guard and the next he’s your jansport backpack. To me, he’s the all time grandmaster of BJJ.

Maia never ever got the respect and recognition he deserved.

The manhandling of Chael Sonnen says a lot about Maia's elite game.

If only he had just a tiny bit of striking, he’d be pretty dominant

Maia might be the most universally respected MMA fighter in history
Eh. Maybe to the people that know better but universally Maia never got the recognition he deserved .

GOAT sweep:

Especially given what happened 30 seconds prior.

His transitions are also the best. Was it against Sonnen that he pulled that crazy sub? Might be wrong, but yeah, the man is a stud.

What recognition are we missing? Guy was universally known as one of the best BJJ practitioners of all-time. His overall MMA game had big holes and he didn't have the complete toolset to become a champ.

I'd say his career results and recognition are quite appropriate.

That’s cause his whole sweep game revolves about people trying to punch him from half... he’s awesome, is so good that he didn’t even had to be worry about getting gnp from top position cause people rather disengage than risk getting swept.

Roxanne Modaferri is the female Maia.

Maia "sweep" is coming up with a single / dog fight position, basically he is wrestling and not staying still on bottom for more than one second.

Lol seriously, he’s recognized as a BJJ specialist that’s been in the top 10 fight ages. He’s also recognized for being apart of two of the worst title fights in MMA history, so yes, his recognition is indeed appropriate.

What I get a kick out of is bjj players either so committed or so one dimensional that they take a real ass kicking on the feet, or through GnP until they amazingly/miraculously get the sub. It’s just hilarious to watch. Part luck in some respects, and definitely alot of skill. I love it.
