News Nikolay Verettinikov fights Austin Vanderford at UFC Seattle.

mid-carders don't belong in the UFC. The UFC is for young prospects and title contenders.

Vanderford has shown nothing to suggest he can contend for the title.

There's a few hundred fighters in the UFC who are neither prospects nor title contenders. Vanderford is solid at 170 and I think he'll be a good test for up and coming prospects.

And yet we all would have agreed that after losing to Woodson and Seung Woo Choi, Zalal was not a serious prospect.

The legendary Mr VanderZant, trophy husband and OnlyStans Superstar
Belals days are numbered
He should move back to MW after and fight Big Bo, would be a barn burner !

I'm pretty sure it's a late replacement fight those signings aren't usually the most well thought out
Verettinikov was supposed to fight last week against Billy Goff, they've added this fight to the Seattle card because its been taking a battering with Injuries and pullouts.
Vanderford only has 2 losses on his record and 1 of them is to Mousasi so not sure why everyones bent out of shape about this.

Sure but I don't think anyone would argue Max Griffin or Julian Erosa are going to be serious prospects, but they serve their purpose
Griffin doesn't belong in the UFC at this point.

Erosa has two extremely high quality wins on his resume (Rodriguez and Woodson). While a serious title run is very unlikely, he's proven himself to be able to beat the best.

I’m actually really surprised by this signing. Like he’s decent, but nothing amazing. Go get em, mr Vanzant.

Tbf Vanderford has a solid win over Fabian Edwards.

If not Erosa then there's Billy Q, DSDA, Hakeem Dawodu, Court McGee, Priscilla Cachoeira, Kurt Holobaugh, Cody Gibson, Brad Katona etc etc

Interesting, lets see what happens.

Him and PVZ used to come by this place I worked at, and they were surprisingly nice and friendly people.

And Erosa is always fun to watch. Also arguably has a win over Paddy the fatty as he got robbed by the decision in that fight.

That's fine.

Let's hope we get a few more of the ex Bellator fighters in the UFC, just to approximate the level a little bit.

Pico is an obvious pick up, but there are others too.

I'm alright with this signing, think he'll end up sticking around for a while as a mid tier welterweight. I'll take him to win a decision.

I thought he was a MW (most likely because he fought Mousasi)
Fun fact: Vanderford and McConico, another short-notice newcomer in the Seattle card, fought their first amateur fight against each other. Vanderford won
He has also beaten Fugitt for his second pro fight, who was the WW initially fighting in this card

Dude has a creepy vibe.
Calling it the cantender series at this point is a can move. The show has proven itself to be one of the best vehicles for getting new contenders into the UFC.

DWCS is one of the highlights of UFC programming -- I look forward to it with much anticipation, especially as a Tuesday (midweek) fight show.

Sanko is showing a little wear -- but she has that superb Employee of the Month attitude that makes the DWCS production easy to consume.

Plus we get to see Dana at his unfiltered finest as exuberant Boss or grumpy old man depending on the performances.

It really should be twice held twice a year.

Nope. It should be held every week the whole year.
