Just because it's the street, and you want to "survive", doesn't mean you can close the distance on a trained guy to be able to strike the groin, or throat, or eyes.

Do you think just because there are rules to where you can strike in MMA, that an MMA fighter can't block a kick to the groin, or a guy trying to poke him in the eye?

Not to mention, the "street" fighter trying to groin kick and eye gouge has to do this to a guy that trains on striking probably every day. He has to try to get a finger in an eye while a barrage of punches and kicks comes from the MMA fighter. We haven't even brought up conditioning yet.

Multiple people I agree with, but if that's the case, then nothing is being proved here. Thompson could just bring a gun. It happens in the streets, right?

The point is, just because the rules change doesn't mean a guy that lives in the projects will fight better in a street environment than a guy that trains to fight professionally. The reality is, they won't. They can be more resourceful than an MMA fighter can be in the cage, but THE MMA FIGHTER CAN BE RESOURCEFUL IN THE STREETS TOO.

Oh, by the way, Krav Maga isn't a form of Kung Fu. It is a hand to hand combat system made in Israel and is used by the ISF. Know what you are talking about before you start spouting off this crap.

why do ppl insist on believing that mma fighters will fight with a different mentality because it is a sport?

i knew some amateur mma fighters that trash ppl in street fights using techniques they learned in the gym as well as "street fighting tactics". this is all a dumb argument brought up by ppl who want to believe that a mma fighter won't wreck shop on them.

i have taken so called self defense classes and most of them consisted of learning BASIC i stress BASIC mma techniques with your occasional throat strike, eye poke, hair pull etc.

anyone with some sense can come to the conclusion that a mma fighter on the street would become more violent because he won't have to worry about a ref or rules. he would be able to use all the weapons in his arsenal.

  1. Because his parents enrolled him in it and it is a traditional and popular form in China. Might as well ask why Eddie Van Halen's parents enrolled him in piano lessons or why Einstein had to take history in school.

Krav Maga is not Kung Fu. Wing Chun (an art I've studied before) would get decimated by a well rounded fighter.

Self defense is about hurting and killing as fast as possible so you can move on to killing or hurting the next attacker, or fight both at once. Can you triangle choke, double leg, or head kick multiple attackers. No, I didn't think so

In a fight would you favour the guy with excellent cardio, functional strength, good striking, good wrestling, good grappling and proven ability to beat the shit out of professional fighters?
Or the guy training a Chinese dancing martial art?
