News Nick Diaz out of Vicente Luque fight, Themba Gorimbo steps in on short notice

That might be even worst if he’s been in & out, essentially drugs ended his career and he was out here blaming everyone else instead of taking accountability & being responsible for his career. Jake, Gilbert and Nate should be helping him out and try to get him situated with a career. Seems like they all went there separate ways in the past few years. Jake’s out in Vegas running a gym, Melendez is in Cali running a regional promotion and Nate is just doing god knows what. Nick seems like the only one without a stable form of income.

You have a point about the conditioning, but I saw something different.

The Diaz brothers always train for cardio and longevity, maybe he trained legit.

But not meaning to be disrespectful, but he was moving like someone with bad CTE / drug issues, or someone really old.

He hung in there, but damn the nervous system looked jilted as hell.. it was sad to watch.

Promoters in legit orgs need to stop doing this shit.

I’m tired of seeing brain damaged / elderly people consistently come into fights, look terrible then get KO’d. It’s a blight on mma, mma is brutal enough, they need to have at least some standards. Tony frrguson’s brain must look like a piece of Swiss cheese by now.

Damn man I hope Nick is okay....

Robbie is the fucking man

Everybody saying Dana should do something, where tf is Nate at to help his brother?

Hope Nick is doing okay.

Aside from that... good opportunity for Gorimbo. Luque vs. Diaz was a crapshoot of a fight between two broken men. This is very different. Gorimbo doesn't really come across as a guy who will set the world on fire, but he is serviceable across the board, athletic, and appears to be very coachable with good gameplanning. Themba strikes me as the type who probably stays active inside the gym even in his "off-season" and stylistically -- against this version of Luque -- he can probably do well for himself.

Themba has big power in his hands and doesn't mind a bit of a gunfight. Vicente post-Neal is afraid of any and all exchanges on the feet; he went from being the division's most willing scrapper to being gunshy and hesitant. He doesn't wear damage well at all, either. The way he reacted any time RDA or Buckley landed clean on him was super worrying. I think Themba, despite being the less refined striker on-paper, will be capable of making things dirty and forcing Luque into a defensive shell if he wants to.

Vicente has embraced his offensive grappling as a desperate way of staying afloat... but IMO it's too little, too late. It was enough to let him stifle the chronically undersized RDA who basically handed the fight to him, but as we saw against Buckley, that approach has its limits. Themba has an 82% TDD and is a big, strong guy. As long as he doesn't dive into a front headlock choke like he did against Fletcher in his debut (back when he didn't really have a good training situation), he'll probably do fine in the grappling exchanges, too.

Gorimbo by Decision or TKO IMO. His pace and aggression will be too much.

The problem is you can’t help someone that doesn’t want to be helped…

Luque has no luck w getting fights

Nick Diaz shouldn't just be out of the fight, but out of the sport. But at least he saved himself a total ass whooping.

This is just a tragic story unfolding before our eyes.

I hope Nate takes care of his brother, because he's obviously struggling both mentally and financially.

This sucks, but I reallt do hope he is ok. Easily one of my favorite fighters of all time.

Honestly, the UFC getting Nick a fight in the condition that he is in (if he really is in such a condition) ought to show Nick what anyone really means to Dana.
