Same type of player? They picked the best player based on draft analysis - who the hell wouldnt want Hall, RNH, McGoat?? I guess Yak would be a bust but he still was highly touted and Leon and Jordan were / are amaing picks - i doubt any team would've done any different - They took their time with Leon . nurse and name me a 1st overall pick that hasnt started in their first year?
I agree they have been hesitant on pulling the trigger for a d-man in a trade but we have no idea what has been offered.
Also, Chiarelli is not a bad coach and still couldnt get the best out of them.
I agree, the leafs are doing the right things but you cant say they will be contenders in two years based off what they have currently / matthews.
Its also hard to say the progressed - they seemingly are doing to the right moves but they also finished dead last- not sure how a team that finished 30th has progressed. We hope they progressed - but until next year, we cant say. Buffalo has a way better team / prospects in 15/16 than the leafs will have in 16/17 and they were nowhere close to competing for a spot.
I think it's pretty obvious that they tanked on purpose last year. No I'm not saying they were stellar by any stretch of the imagination. And they would have missed the playoffs regardless. But I absolutely believe their was a drive to finish 30'th.
I think it's pretty obvious they finished 30th because they were the 30th best team in the league - or the the 1st worst.
This post brings up an interesting question... Where has @Rals been ?The Sens will get moved to Seattle before they win a cup
Mark my words. Only Ottawa could score a player as incredible as Karlsson and not even be close to a top team

Someone NEEDS to offer sheet Seth Jones
Columbus is going to struggle to resign with their internal budget and several long term no movement contracts and he's going to be a stud in this league someone needs to make a move. Worst case Ontario you end up totally burying Columbus best case you snag a top level, young, right handed defensemen and guys at Seth's level, handedness and age are very rare
the sens could afford it

add chabot to that mix in a season or two and the sens would have the top d corps in the league
A Winnipeg hockey player was arrested after a friend allegedly tried to walk away with stolen bowling pins from a Disneyland restaurant.
Darren Kramer, who plays for the Manitoba Moose, was arrested Tuesday in California, according to Deadspin.
The scuffle started when Kramer's friend was allegedly spotted leaving the restaurant carrying a large flag and several bowling pins.
An officer asked the man, who identified himself as "Corbin," to return the items. The man returned the flag, but argued with Disney security about the pins. That's when the officer stepped in.
"I advised him that he was to drop the items," reads a statement from the Orange County Sherrif's Office. "As I made contact, he held two bowling pins in his right hand and one in his left. I observed his face lose all coloring and turn white, which I recognized as a threat to my safety.
The officer claimed he grabbed the pins after Corbin appeared ready to strike him. When asked to put his hands behind his back, the officer said Corbin "quickly turned to his right and stated a long 'Noo'" before fleeing on foot.
That's when the officer says he spotted Kramer telling his friend to run away. The officer tried to handcuff the player, but he allegedly pulled the officer off his feet and tried to run.
As the pair scuffled, the officer said he had to subdue Kramer with a Taser.

Dreger report saying buffalo is going to offer Stammer 12 million/yr for 7 years
So far Tampa has only offered 8.5 for 8. Not sure Tampa can offer more due to a lot of resigning they need to do.
Not sure how Buffalo will be able to float that long term with Jack and Sam probably looking for big money - probably will trade one of them and Kane.
Should be interesting
LOL that would be crippling to any team with this cap limit...
I hope they do it!
Depends on high the cap goes up - it's dependent on the CDN dollar which should go up in the next few years.
Take a look at their roster cap - they can offer Stamkos that money while keeping O'Reilly and one of Jack or Sam. Maybe even both if Sam takes a bridge contract (which he probably will) so that's 5 great top liners in your system for th next 3-4 years.
It's not really all that different than Chicago having Kane, Toews, Hossa, Keith on the books.
Stack the hell out of your top six, franchise 3 of them and add and remove cheap deapth as you go along
Eventually after 3-4 years you're going to have to move a solid player but you get that back in picks and prospects and repeat the cycle.
Even if the players use one of their cap increases...it only goes up by 1.5 mil.
It only goes up that much next year - it very well may go up 5/6/7 the next - eventually Canada's economy will rebound to at least .85 usd our teams which make up the bulk of the top 10 wealth teams will cause the collective cap to increase
But even at 1.5 increase buffalo has 22 million in cap space with Kane, O'Reilly, Jack and Sam locked up for the next 2-6 years - even with stammer taking 12 of that, that leaves them 10 to sure up any bottom six they want - or, just move up some of the guys making 800k up
They are in the most advantageous position in the league.
