Done move on.
Tellin ya, stars win up north, finale in Dallas classic game seven.

With all the talk about how bad Edmonton's goaltending and defense are, they are tied with Florida for allowing the fewest goals (not including empty netters) through 5 games of the conference finals.

Edmonton 11
Florida 11
Rangers 13
Stars 14

And the Stars had the most regular season goals (298) of any of the remaining teams. Edmonton 294, Rangers 282, and Florida 268. They were 3rd in the league behind only Colorado and Toronto.

This just reflects how they are playing presently, but they've been considerably better through 5 games than they were through 5 games of the Canucks series. Game 6 of that series I guess is when they turned it around.

Only caught the 3rd period last night, but Skinner made some Grade A saves and it looked like the defense was actually playing... defense. The one goal Skinner allowed was just a beautiful deflection by Wyatt.

So who do the sharks draft at 14 overall? Or do we trade up? We need defensemen after Celebrini.

Buium, Dickenson, Parekh, Yakemchuk Silayev....

Or do we go for a goal scoring RW like Eiserman since we have so many playmakers?

Waddell just took over CBJ and made it sound like the 4th overall night be up for grabs if someone gives him cap relief. Sharks have like 20 million in cap space.

It's mostly the last two games where they've looked substantially better.

Through the first three games, the Stars outscored the Oilers 5-0 in the third (3-0 if you don't count EN). Oilers blew 2-0 leads in both games 1 and 3. There were a ton of defensive breakdowns in game 3 and the fourth goal was especially bad by Skinner.

In the first three games, the Oilers had 36 giveaways. In the last two, they only had 12. They're not that far removed from looking shaky defensively. The last two games have been night and day in comparison.

Game 1 had an additional period so when you normalize that to 3 periods it isn't as bad. Game 2 they only had 6. 3 was a bad game, but when you look back to the Canucks series they had only 11 giveaways in the last 2 games. So that's a pretty good stretch with a couple hiccups basically.

I'm not sure how comprehensively that stat captures defense though. And I mentioned goaltending as part of their improvement as well. NY appears to be turning the puck over quite a lot against the Panthers (59 times over 5 games) and I don't see anyone talking about how abysmal their defense is.

Adding a period doesn't really make a big change. Just from watching the games as well, it's been a pretty big difference. The first three games weren't too far off from most of the Canucks series and a lot of the issues (third period especially) were the same. I don't think anyone at the end of game 3 was feeling confident defense and goaltending-wise. I wouldn't be too shocked if they continue playing well though.

I agree there are more comprehensive stats and a big part of it is goaltending. The Oilers are naturally going to be under the microscope more than other teams.

London Knights Memorial Cup tomorrow y'all. Let's go!
