Media Ngannou on JRE (UPDATED, with dirty cliffs)

Ngannou's spat with the UFC has turned me into a fan whereas I was a bit indifferent before. The UFC's tactics are unfair if not unethical and Ngannou had enough resolve to leverage his position as one of the baddest heavyweights on the planet.

Francis should know there's no way in hell Dana will allow him vs JJ to happen. Not ever.

Only chance is if JJ retires and then goes to PFL.

Money talks, only way I see a co-promotion is if Ngannou wins against Tyson Fury and then beats him in the rematch. And than the money will be too great for both UFC & Dana to pass up on. It would make huge numbers, I can't even imagine a Jones/Ngannou fight to claim who the baddest man in the world. I think it would be in the top 5 of all-time money making event for a combat sport.

Is it just me or is his face fuller? Wonder what changes he might make in his physique/diet for boxing as opposed to MMA

I guess he might just come in really heavy since he's just gonna be trying to land a bomb and doesn't need to worry about making 265lbs.

I think, all said and done, he really is a fan of MMA, not just an employee or a fan of the UFC, and he stands by it. Cool with me. He's at a point where the UFC shouldn't matter that much, within his business life. Spotify money is probably a lot more than UFC money. Anyway, were the UFC to part ways with Joe, any other org would hire him, and it wouldn't be the same as when they fired Goldy and Bellator picked him up. Wherever Joe goes, people will notice anyway, and he has a platform to promote the fuck out of it. Suppose Dana will not voice too much displeasure about this, he probably wants to stay on good terms with Joe.

His income from media rights, touring and business investments are tens of millions a year. He hasn't needed UFC money in over a decade, its something he does out of passion / hobby. Joe's net-worth is >100mm.

For better or worse, Rogan has one of the most valuable media properties in the world. He can host whoever he likes without any fear of blow-back from anyone, let alone Dana/UFC.

In any event, Ngannou should be celebrated here. The guy had the courage to bet on himself and won, and he's been highlighting how unfair the status quo is with UFC promotional contracts and their tolling. This is a 'rising tide lifts all boats' mentality and he should be commended for it.

War Ngannou

Good for Francis. Glad he's getting well compensated.

Doubt we will ever see him in the UFC again, but will continue to be a fan of his.
You will be a fan of anyone who gets you likes. If sherdog turns on frank, you will too

JUST UPDATED the CLIFFS, Shermanos! Found a new YouTube clip of the interview, with some rather interesting revelations (at least for a casual like myself who hasn't really followed the Francis-UFC Saga as intensely as some).
Enjoy!

Thanks for all the work, sherbro. Here's the spotify link to the whole podcast if anyone is interested.

what about the fighter union or whatever he was talking about before? he was fighting for ALL FIGHTERS PAY remember? what happened to that? what's up with PFL Africa? i don't see that mentioned.

Pretty sure he only had those crazy demands when he was negotiating with UFC.

The only thing he's mentioned for PFL is that his first opponent is guaranteed a big payday, but they really need that because they're aren't really any big name HWs outside UFC at the moment.

Even if he "retired" UFC would still own him for MMA fights, there's no way for him to fight Francis outside UFC.

The "extensions" he's talking about aren't a UFC thing, nor are they that uncommon.

Hell their partner company has done that a long time, when performers are on the shelf and can't complete their end of the contract it basically goes in stasis and starts back up when you get back to work.

I'm not a shill or corp guy at all but I still get surprised by people that think if you sign a contract, then don't do what you signed for, you should still get credit for doing it... weird imo.

Extensions, as he explained it, are necessary for legit injury situations.

But he explained how he won the title in late March, they saw he was celebrating in Cameroon, then they call him and ask about fighting in early June? When does a champ ever have a turnaround of 2 months? It was a bullshit offer.

And they used that as a basis to extend for another 6 months, which rightfully annoyed Francis.

Wait, I've been told Rogan is a company man. I'm listening currently, and Joe is 100% letting Francis speak his truth. Good for Francis.
Joe has always said that if UFC makes him say stuff he dont wanna say,he will leave. His podcast is obviously way more profitable than his side gig. He said that even before JRE blew up so huge.

And every fighter in the UFC is looking at him like "Wait, how the fk did he just..... one day Imma....."

His mark has been made, even if the machine won't talk about it

Too bad for them that the UFC changed their contracts to avoid anyone else pulling off what Francis did.

Francis was only in a position to do what he did because Cung Le's lawsuit years ago led to the UFC making their contract less restrictive. But they have tightened them up again because of him.

The ongoing lawsuit is going to do more for fighter rights than anything Francis can do. And the fighters need to grow some balls and unionize.

He (any mma fighter) is lucky to get a Tyson fury fight to begin with.

so he should have tried harder part is ridiculous
Fury wanted this. He made that clear way back. Francis at least obviously posses some sway.

They were offering like $1.80 per PPV buy of $60-80. His final fight with the UFC, they paid him 600K - LOL

There was no smugness at all from Francis. He spoke intelligently and expressed his opinions in a straight forward manner. He said I had a plan, I stuck to my plan, and things worked out. Francis stated he knows hard times and doesn’t fear there return like so many which enables him to reach for his dreams. I have no idea how anybody listening would hear smugness.

I do think Francis is one and done in boxing. Fury will piece him up brutally if he wants. That could have an impact on future negotiations but I think Francis is at peace regardless.

Oh thank you! I'm a lazy plebe so I usually just use and take content from YouTube. Might check out the full interview when I get more time!
