The only way you gonna do good money in the ufc is if they need you, not the contrary. Him opting to not renew his contract is a brilliant move, imagine if he wins this match againt gane and after the other fight he has to take bacause of his contract he goes away. He basically has the ufc by the balls and the premiere mma organization in the world woudn't have the badest man on the planet on their roster, fighters need to learn from this, make shorter term contracts and show the ufc that they need you and not the contrary.

Fedor would not accept UFC's deal, and Fedor was universally recognized as #1. And he beat all the best Heavyweights of his time.

And we gotta read ppl on here saying he ducked the UFC cuz he was scared.

I'd imagine despite Francis being Champ, and even beating Gane, as time goes by ppl will say he ducked Jones and a rematch with Black Beast and blah blah blah.

Imagine that a week away from 2022.. people still don’t understand what a “contract” is? Or what the champion clause is?

Ngannou hasn’t sold one single ppv as the champion headliner yet. And he thinks he has the upper hand on the UFC?? I’m pretty sure they let him know his place when they made an alternate champion. Or did you miss that part?

I’m fine with people getting paid what they are worth. But the UFC made it perfectly clear that his worth to them is minimal. He’s fought 4 times in the last 3 calender years. And you think he’s making the UFC money? Meanwhile Gane fought 3 times in 2021.

Ngannou was getting a serious push from the UFC before he fought Stipe the first time. It was obvious the UFC was clearing the road for him to be a big star. And he decided to bail on TC, and go on a holiday instead. Then he got embarrassed by Stipe. And to make matters worse, he put on a stinker of the decade performance against Lewis in his next fight.

He literally passed up fights in the last 2 years including a ppv cut. I’m not a business school grad. But, you can’t be a very unknown proven commodity like Ngannou and expect to get paid by showing up once per year.

Wash his balls all you want. But, the sooner he’s out of the UFC the better.

Active champ, my ass.

He didn’t beat Sergei

They can't force him to fight, thats not on the contract

they don't care if he sits, they only care if he leaves with the belt which is why they'll never allow that to happen. if he sits that doesn't really stop the train. they'll assassinate his character and build up another dude, with Rogan spewing hyperbole all over his gigantic podcast about <insert new UFC flavor of the month> is the GOAT.

you think the masses will remember Ngannou? especially after the UFC propaganda machine runs over his reputation and career with a steamroller? they don't even remember Randy Couture and he is a white American who can speak English well and is a 2 weight class champion.

you severely underestimate how powerful UFC's control on the narrative is, how easily led the masses are when they're spoon fed propaganda, and you're way overestimating Ngannou's leverage because he has none. he couldn't even get them to make the Jon Jones fight happen, you think he's going to suck money out of them doing what he's been doing already for less pay? that's not how business works.

GSP owes them fights still doesn’t he?
Yes GSP and Khabib still have fights on their contract so it's not the same as Ngannou who's contract only got extended due to turning down a fight that he couldn't accept due to visa issues. Dana has already spoke on this, it's clear they haven't come to terms and they have accepted that Ngannou is most likely going to be a free agent and probably crossing over to boxing.

that’s what I thought, GSP is stuck because he agreed to a new deal somewhere along the line and still owes fights to the ufc after retiring.

Does anybody here knows how the championship clause works? If a champion relinquishes the belt and has no fights left in his contract, what happens?

Every time you win a fight it extends. So after he relinquished he'd owe one more fight, I don't think he'd be able to just walk away into boxing or something. He'd have to fight out a non-title fight or sit on the shelf.

If he wins his contract gets extended 3 fights.
Thank BJ Penn for that one.

He's a free agent if he loses, if he wins Champion clause extends one more fight.

"if Ngannou loses at UFC 270 he will be a free agent as he hasn’t re-signed with the promotion. However, if he wins, White believes that extends Ngannou’s contract by one more fight."
