Agreed. Kendall Wright put up Pro Bowl numbers his 2nd year in the league on a team with a terrible Quarterback situation. Like you said there is all kinds of buzz on Justin Hunter as well.
As a Titans fan I kinda hope that Jake Locker gets hurt this season. Terrible I know but....
(1) They aren't gonna do anything besides be in the running for a Wild Card best case scenario.
(2) I don't want to see Jake Locker have an average season and then get a 6-year $70-80 million contract. Only to get injured the next season.
(3) Get a really good draft pick for a change. The Titans are the master of the 7-9 or 8-8 season which earns them nothing but picks 12-20 in the draft.
(4) It serves them right for bringing in god awful Charlie Whitehurst as a backup to the most injury prone starting quarterback in the league. Its almost like they were thinking hey if Locker gets hurt we are screwed anyways so.... (I know they brought Whitehurst in because his experience in the offense just saying)
(5) This team is a quarterback away from being legit playoff contenders. They have solid weapons in the receiving game in Wright, Hunter and Delanie Walker. They have what should be one of the better offensive lines in the league. The defense improved a ton last season and was in the top half of the league.
I don't know how to feel about Locker. On one hand, he's shown really good potential. However, after years of defending him, I finally gave up after his last injury. He should have to prove everything now. Nothing handed to him. The injury prone label is 100% accurate in his case. I have to pull for him or else it'll be yet ANOTHER lost season, but I don't have hope he'll work out. And God forbid Clipboard Jesus has to play. Just see what Methnburger has instead.
Our defense is going to be lightyears better now that Jerry fucking Gray isn't putting the cornerbacks seven yards off the line of scrimmage every play. That shit got on my nerves. In fact, it's a miracle that we went 7-9 last year. Not only a tough schedule (especially right out of the gate), we had probably the
worst coaching staff in the league. Our head coach had never called a play at any level in his career. Both our offensive and defensive coordinators would not adjust in game. Even the positional coaches were bad with a few exceptions.
Going from Jerry Gray to Ray Horton (who should have a head coaching gig) is like going from Roseanne to Jessica Biel. I can't wait to see our defense under Horton. He will actually adjust and create schemes that will fit our players on the field. And hopefully we'll get to see more of Karl Klug, who has been criminally underutilized his whole career.
But nothing matters unless Jake Locker stops getting injured. If Locker stays healthy and performs well, this division is ripe for the taking. Worst division in the NFL. It would be really nice to get back to the playoffs for a change and STOP FINISHING 8-8. UGH!!!!!!!
Oh, and thank God MeJ2K is no longer our problem.
