Big part of it imo. Elite athletes are treated differently from day one. Theyre not held to the same standards as everyone else and from early on in life are allowed to get away with shit others wouldnt.

Add in the fact that these are largely in part naturally aggressive, alphas, sprinkle in some PEDs and brain trauma and well here we are.
