New The SHiNiNG interpretation

Thats because you're awesome.
Love the idea btw.

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate anyone taking the time to read or comment. I know the topic has been beaten to death but when I searched and didn't find any Dante's Inferno/The SHiNiNG theories I thought it would be entertaining and a worth while post.

Thanks everybody, especially Lamentation aka Stephen King :P

The Divine Comedy is fucking awesome tho', so I'd be pretty amiable toward it being used as a theme for The Shining.

Lamentation is pissed over this. Lol.

I love the shining and enjoyed the read. the movie terrified me as a kid. The twins still give me the creeps.
My brother always cut the lights sprint up the stairs and yell, the twins! And wouldnt let me out of the basement lol.

Just finished watching Room 237...

It takes a special brand of idiot to buy into this shit.

The thread title states New The SHiNiNG Interpretation

Of course it's from my pov but I felt there were enough points of interest and correlations that I haven't seen in other analysis's to merit sharing it.

I think The SHiNiNG is as complicated as the hedge maze but I still enjoy trying to figure it out.

I'm also not saying The SHiNiNG is a remake or update of Dante's Inferno as much as Kubrick may have been inspired by it and worked it into the story thematically as I think it works well with the subject matter of The Shining novel.

lol, man, i don't know. I guess i was just busting your balls a bit.

I did watch room 237 and anything associated with that pisses me off i think. I am just hoping you don't take anything they say in that movie as being anywhere near true.

I think i am just getting prepped to go to war with people who project their psychosis on others.

as much fun as it is to think of crazy shit, it is also fun to shoot that crazy shit down completely with facts.

i think i want to be like an arguer.

this thread makes me want to rewatch the shining, but that movie is so f**king scary, I don;t think I can, lol

Cannot watch unless I have company and there are 3 hours of sunlight left in the day.

No worries mang, it was all in good fun.

For the record I am more into the story-telling techniques Kubrick uses in The SHiNiNG and find the conspiracy theories involving Nasa to be interesting but far fetched.

This is what I think about the appearance of Apollo 11 on Danny's sweater.

The twins in the movie represent victims. They were murdered by Grady their father but they are also symbolic of the danger Danny is in.

The faked moon landing theory comes from the Apollo 11 sweater and the fact that the twins are seen holding hands like the Gemini Constellation, Gemini was also a NASA mission.

Everyone has noticed that The SHiNiNG uses mirrors a lot but some mirrors aren't literal but symbolic.

Here we go.

The twins are victims and Danny is in danger of being a victim himself. His ability to shine relates this to him with the "spirits" of the axe murdered twins.

The twins are a mirror image of Danny because they are Gemini and Danny is wearing an Apollo 11 shirt. Apollo was the son of Zeus and also had a twin sister, Artemis. So we have a pair of Gemini twins and Danny wearing a shirt referencing another pair of twins. In mythology one of the Gemini twins was fathered by Zeus which is a reference to both pairs of twins.

Now this is where things get interesting

The astrological symbol for Gemini

which to me looks an awful lot like the blood spewing elevator.

If that's the case the elevator spewing blood is another way of Danny's shining ability giving him a vision to warn him about impending danger.

That all adds up to a very clever way of telling a story and not so much of a faked moon landing, but that's just like my opinion man.

And a way to simplify that info would be noticing that Jack(murderer) is the only one who see's Grady (murderer) and Wendy and Danny (potential victims) are the only ones to see the Gemini twins (victims)

my thoughts on the photo at the end of the film

I also feel that the ending shot of Jack in the black and white photo date July 4 1921 serves two purposes. The first is that it shows that Jack's soul is frozen in eternity in the photo a symbol for the lake of ice(9th circle). If we didn't see the photo and Kubrick left us with Jack's frozen corpse in the maze I don't think we would have gotten the sense of utter and everlasting finality that the photo gives. The date on the photo and the line where Delbert tells Jack that he has always been the caretaker leads me to believe since Delbert is already dead and thus aware of eternity that he has always known Jack(in Hell).

I also think the July 4th date celebrates Danny and Wendy's escape and hard won independence of Jack, an abusive father and husband.

Stanely Kubrick himself explained the significance of the photo. He said it is intended as supernatural i.e. that is indeed Jack in the picture and he was indeed the caretaker at that time. Too lazy to find where I saw that but you can google it.
