New The SHiNiNG interpretation

Kubrick and Duvall were both nominated for Razzies, that is not an award you want associated with you if you are in show business.

http://www.imdb.com/event/ev0000558/1981

do you know that the Razzies have ZERO to do with box office dollars?

You said it was a financial and critical failure. I sent you proof it made money. Ask anyone who remember 1980 and ask them about the shining. very popular movie. Horror was king in those days.

This is the thing. the bullshit you are stating here you cannot back up with facts or conversations people had with kubrick or anything kubrick ever said or any legitimate news.

All your shit comes from some crazy assholes on Room 237. The purpose of the movie is NOT that they are right, but just look what crazy shit these people are getting from the shining

now, I fully support anyone doing a personal interpretation of a piece of art. i do it all the time. but i KNOW that this is just me throwing my personal experience in it. i do not think it is what the artists meant.

Your problem is that you are stating this theory like IT IS A FACT. that is living in a fantasy world aka psychosis.

just know that the OP is just some crazy ass shit you made up in your head and it has no basis in reality.
if this is hard, just try collecting any info to support you theory from legitimate details about the book/movie/kurbick

all my rebuttals of your "facts" are from real world things like conversations between king and kubrick, or where he stated that topiary monsters would look silly, or where the timberline told kurbick not to use a real room number.

This is the dumbest shit I've ever listened to.

you are talking about watching room 237, right?
I felt the same way. the indian stuff for the first 20 mins was interesting. then some woman talks about some random conversation she had and how she had a shining moment and i was like "GTFO"

but yeah, it is a complete waste of time. sorry.

"I guess that makes the Minotaur half cannibal since he is half human."
Cannibalism is the act or practice of humans eating the flesh or internal organs of other human beings

In these lines Virgil taunts the Minotaur in order to distract him, and reminds the Minotaur that he was killed by Theseus the Duke of Athens with the help of the monster's half-sister Ariadne. The Minotaur is the first infernal guardian whom Virgil and Dante encounter within the walls of Dis.[20] The Minotaur seems to represent the entire zone of Violence, much as Geryon represents Fraud in Canto XVI, and serves a similar role as gatekeeper for the entire seventh Circle.[21]
Giovanni Boccaccio writes of the Minotaur in his literary commentary of the Commedia: "When he had grown up and become a most ferocious animal, and of incredible strength, they tell that Minos had him shut up in a prison called the labyrinth, and that he had sent to him there all those whom he wanted to die a cruel death".[22] Dante Gabriel Rossetti, in his own commentary,[23][24] compares the Minotaur with all three sins of violence within the seventh circle: "The Minotaur, who is situated at the rim of the tripartite circle, fed, according to the poem was biting himself (violence against oneself) and was conceived in the 'false cow' (violence against nature, daughter of God)."

yip. i was actually turned off as early as the indian stuff.

is this the same documentary as the one where Kubrick supposedly filmed the moon landing?

Not a huge fan of the movie but I did enjoy your write up xeno. It did make me check netflix for The Shinning but its only on DVD. So I tried watching the 237 but gave up after a bit. Anyway next time I do catch it, I will try to look for all these nuances.

yes, i believe there is a moon landing segment on it. which of course the mythbusters destroyed.

here is a video. i could not stomach the 9 minutes of my life being wasted but i got this nugget

he says there is no room 217 @ 5:26 and that this is a "fact"

now, here is REAL FACT
http://www.smartmeetings.com/meeting-and-event-planning-news/2013/04/09/timberline-still-shining/

Room 237, a documentary that opened to rave reviews on March 29, wildly explores many of the themes and production elements presented in Kubrick’s work to the point where some theories are as seemingly insane as the movie’s main character, Jack Torrance. One of the biggest questions posed in the documentary is why Kubrick chose the room number 237, given that the Stephen King book that the movie was based on uses the room number 217. So why the switch?

John Tulles, who handles public relations for Timberline, relays the simple answer: “Richard Kohnstamm, the one-time area operator for the Timberline Lodge, asked Kubrick to have a room number not used at the hotel. Richard was scared no one would ever stay in [Timberline’s] Room 217 again!” The lodge’s room numbers only go up to 229.

then the guy claims: says he talked to many special effects guys from the 60s and 70s, no names of course and says "you are right it is all
front screen projection"

lol, again, you are INSANE and full of shit. you already flat out lied about room 217. why this fuck would i believe any of the crazy shit you are saying. you did no research with anyone who would have what could be considered a RESPECTABLE opinion.

mythbusters closed the case on this shit with EXPERTS and experimentation--like the basis of REAL TRUE SCIENCE

and of course he is spouting off the same crazy "kubrick made these changes from the book for a secret narrative" that xeno is yapping about

The Minotaur was half human and ate men for sustenance. It's not a fact but it's myth.

again, i am saying it is a minotaur and not a man. a minotaur may have a half human body but he is not a human.

a cannibal is a human that eats another human. the minotaur no where eats other minotaurs.

look, you don't even have a theory of your OWN. You are just regurgitating the shit from room 237.

at least these crazy people could create their own crazy theories.

http://www.vulture.com/2013/03/the-shining-four-paths-through-kubricks-maze.html

type in rooms 237 and anything you mention in google and it is there already. go ahead, room 237 and minotaur or inferno or anything.

now, lets see what someone who actually KNEW and WORKED with kurbick says

http://www.vulture.com/2013/03/kubrick-shining-assistant-room-237-gibberish.html

But Leon Vitali, Stanley Kubrick's personal assistant during the making of the 1980 film, doesn't believe there's so much there there. "I was falling about laughing most of the time," he tells the Times of his experience watching Room 237.
But ... what about the Minotaur poster? That means something, surely? "That astonished me," Vitali says. "I stood staring at all that stuff for weeks while we were shooting in that room. It’s a downhill skier. It’s a downhill skier. It’s not a Minotaur." Ah. But there are Holocaust references in there, right? The German-made Adler typewriter, for instance? "That was Stanley’s typewriter. A lot of decisions made on the set were about pragmatism: ‘This looks good. It sits on the oak table pretty perfectly.’ Not to mention, it’s a great typewriter. I used that typewriter for 10 years, actually."

lol

confirming what i said about many things being used for ascetics only

but there is Tang at the overlook...every house in america had tang in the late 70s/early 80s. but no it is about a fake moon landing

If you have found anything regarding a Dante's Inferno connection I'd be interested in reading it. I saw a mention of the Minotaur theory from ROOM 237 which I mentioned in op as the bread crumb that led to the Dante's Inferno interpretation.

I watched some doc called room 237. I seent the movie. I read the book. There's too much overthimking and overanalyzing

I am sure Stallonne(x2),George Lucas (x2) Michael Bay (x3), and Tyler Perry(x2) are having a hard time finding work as directors after they received theirs.

I wouldn't put any of those mentioned above in the same sentence as Kubrick.

That is what is so shocking about his razzie nomination.

sorry that was my mistake.

you are the originator of the inferno theory.

now, do you really believe that kubrick had this in mind? or do you know it is just your own interpretation of it?

because i could write a paper on how Body Double is all about DePalma's split up with Nancy Allen (but this might actually be true)

Why? They arent always right about a movie being bad, they arent infallible. Brian de Palma got one for Scarface.

The thread title states New The SHiNiNG Interpretation

Of course it's from my pov but I felt there were enough points of interest and correlations that I haven't seen in other analysis's to merit sharing it.

I think The SHiNiNG is as complicated as the hedge maze but I still enjoy trying to figure it out.

I'm also not saying The SHiNiNG is a remake or update of Dante's Inferno as much as Kubrick may have been inspired by it and worked it into the story thematically as I think it works well with the subject matter of The Shining novel.
