New job is kicking my a**

It's not her job to train me though. This is a management position and I'm taking over a new department. She was just nice enough to go over the specific procedures with me but it's way more complex than I expected.

You used the word "humbling" and that's exactly it.

I think maybe I did such a good job of selling myself in the interview, that my boss thought I'd just be able to catch on super quick.

If you're a manager and you have no idea what you're doing then in my experience you're doing your job properly.

I'm on day 9 and I'm getting vibes that feel like they don't think I'm learning fast enough.

The lady that's helping to show me the ropes is nice to me but I can tell she doesn't like repeating herself. Every time I ask a question, she starts her answer with, "like I said earlier..."

I still don't understand most of what's going on though. I might be fucked if I can't start learning faster.

What do, bros?
Open text file, start taking down notes. Read notes thoroughly... profit?

If you write it down, she won't need to repeat herself.

Yeah, as the other guys in here said, take notes.

I feel for you though, as someone with ADD.

Absorbing information isn't something I can really force. I have to practice over and over again to really get something. I'm really good when I do get it, but I have to be left to my own devices for it to really sink in. I'm not a great student in that regard, as I can be really stupid when I have to work to other people's frameworks and I'm constantly second guessing myself in their company.

It was why I pulled out of my motorcycle CBT training. I had to do things very specifically, in order, and I'd get overwhelmed by it and he would get a bit moany, frustrating me, thus exhausting me further.

It’s Day 9 lmao. Do they expect a genius right away? Sounds unrealistic.

With ADHD I actually listen better if I doodle and shit while someone is talking. I've explained that at work and nobody has an issue with me doing it now.

Probably wouldn't recommend it while riding a motorcycle though.

In order to remember, it has to make sense, so you must understand the logic. When they be teaching, make sure to ask what's the purpose of that? Don't be staring at her private parts while she's teaching.

I'm barely doing anything in my tech job for the past month. My replacement will only start in two weeks even if I initially applied to quit at the end of August. I need at least three weeks to train him, and I probably need to extend until January of next year. I may encounter TS' difficulty in my next job. 🙃
Huh? Applied to quit? And you're giving more than 2 weeks notice?

Documentation documentation documentation. Its always the thing people slack on

act insane until they fire you or atleast give you paid leave while investigating the incidents

Take notes or record the meeting in Teams and ask it to make notes.
Ask for short versions and then a more detailed version. Keep both.

Then you can ask Copilot questions about anything you are not sure, or just ask it to replay that part of the meeting.

AI might not be perfect but in this instance, 95% right is fucking awesome.

any time you start a new job as a fluffer you just have to back to your roots eating push up pops as a kid

Same,

I will never remember a list of simple steps, but if you know why you need to do something it just makes sense, so need to remember.

For me at least.
