Media New details on how the UFC plans to use The Sphere

I think the biggest potential issue is that while it might be "neat" most of us give zero fucks about the sphere. Worse yet, aside from the main i really have no interest in any other fight.
But viva la Mexico right?!
Damn, dont care about Lopes vs Ortega is crazy tbh

You don't think it'll look cool when they show a ko shot in slow mo on a screen that's the size of a 6 story building?
I don't know how that shits gonna work, the cage is gonna look so tiny for the people over there. Idk, it'll interesting to see for sure.

Just think for tv. when they pan the camera back and you see the cage and it looks small compared to the screen and you get a sense of the size of the screen. and there is omalley w his colored hair floating in slo mo the size of a space ship and merabs chin getting turned inside out and sweat flying everywhere. And it's 6 stories large

I saw a show at the sphere, the earth show and thought depending on the content it could be great. What's better than a giant screen showing a ko

It's a silly gimmick that will play no part in the people viewing from home. When it comes to theatricality, nothing will ever top PRIDE, especially this gimmick.

Pretty sure during fights they will have the screens off as far as special effects.
That’s what I was thinking, but they’re still going to have the fights broadcasting large enough for the nose bleeds.

Seeing yourself 3rd person throwing a punch 1 second later than when you threw it in the corner of your eye is funky. Whether you’re a professional or not.

Since the card is pretty weak, I’m actually okay with some gimmicky Sphere things affecting the fights

If it lands it's gonna be huge, but if it fails even 10% it will have feces thrown at it from the peanut gallery.

Hell there's already a little poo on the walls in here lol
UFC will always get shit on by sherdog. Sherdoggers HATE mma

No way they're topping the all-time classic 90 sec short film interstitial:

i know he died at a very young afe but as an outsider/non-american I never understood this whole tap-out/the mask thing.
I thought it was kinda lame. something about selling t-shirts at events. a guy that wears face paint or something?

maybe it's a matter of taste but I find these kind of clothing brands like tap-out and affliction horrible. the face painting and corny video.....not my taste at all. but then again I dont like WWF shit either, maybe it's a cultural thing.

@Luthien has been to the Sphere in may, she showed me all the pics and videos she took and its like an astronomy observation centre, the star constellations did look nice and the various galaxies, but can't imagine it for UFC or any fighting event, not the place for it, its more for astronomy and astrology.

With all this talk about the visuals for the sphere, I kept thinking of these problems and I’m wondering how the UFC plans to manage it.

1. Dana keeps preaching that the visuals will be insane and just off the wall great. Since the sphere itself basically surrounds the octagon, how are they planning on it not distracting the fighters? I can’t imagine focusing on your opponent, he turns you a certain way, and you’re looking at some huge Mexican flag that’s flying toward your face like an optical illusion.

2. How is it going to come across for the people at home? There’s no way that filming the giant screen and broadcasting it is going to look good. Sure, they’ll probably cut away and just show their “mini movies” that they just announced, but what about when the fight is on and the screen is in view?

Please bring up your own questions on what else can go wrong.
As a pro athlete you can’t let the surroundings distract you. Come on, man.

These people fight in front of 20K+ people all the time. If the graphics around you are a distraction. You are NOT focused properly.

One of my favourite things in Edmonton is the Space and Sciences Centre. They can project the known universe on the ceiling. You just sit back and look at the stars.

I’ve ALWAYS loved the sky at night. Satellite watching, or if a comet is visible. I could lay on my back summer, or winter, and just look at the sky for hours. Weed helps, though (lol).

I hear ya. Ortega is a weird one for me. I think it boils down to preferring competitive fights or quick finishes.
His BJJ and chin are outstanding but his abysmal striking defense robs me of excitement to a point where it becomes just watching a guy take ridiculous amounts of punishment.
Calvin Kattar is another guy that has the same "just bleed" mentality and i get fans like it but after 30 years of watching the sport It's tough for me to look ahead and pretend he'll be immune to the damage and not wind up like Chuck or Spencer Fisher.

They keep saying it's going to be a "one of a kind" MMA experience. So it'll either be a dramatic overstatement or drastic change.

I think many people are forgetting about the promotion of fight Island. But atleast this time it should take place in the sphere. But after that the expectations should be very low. I'm actually preparing mentally for a pfl style level of production.

The UFC is pretty thorough in their production 99% of the time. I'm sure if us idiots on Sherdog can think of potential issues they have too.

Only real issue I see is how they priced the event and the ticket sales seem to say that also. A lot of seats left in that arena for being a week out basically.

lol that's being extremely generous
Merab, Omalley, Val, Grasso, Lopez, Ortega, Rosas . 7. Literally 7 total fighters in card I wouldn't have to look up to who they are. I'm not as hardcore as so w here but I watch a good amount. It's sad the line up there.
