New California law

22% tax imposed on recreational marijuana purchasers as well as current medical marijuana recommendation patients purchasing medical marijuana

pet stores will only be able to sell rescue animals (sp. dogs, cats, rabbits)

Stupid law, instead of this asinine law that hurts businesses they should have incentiveize businesses by giving massive tax cuts per each rescue sold.

- Sanctuary State law will limit local cooperation/resources with ICE
You either have immigration laws or you don't. Need to come up with reasonable immigration reform so sanctuary cities are not needed.

guns banned at all public schools even for those with concealed carry permits
Has there been an issue with concealed carry permit holders? I just see a problem with giving people access to guns and then not allowing them to be carried in public.

gender identity no longer a requirement on IDs
Makes no sense it's an ID card, not your Tumblr profile.

I don't see why a legit breeder shouldn't be unable to sell animals at a pet store. Just strengthen regulation on breeders.

The rest seems reasonable. But those also don't seem that bad.

I don't really have a problem with any of those other than my registration going up.

Which imo isn’t even the end of the world because if you can afford a 150K Benz you can afford the extra payment towards the registration

Even that new law which might seem slightly unfair isn’t really that bad

this is actually really wise, and hopefully will deter unhealthy breeding practices.

animals as toys any psycho can just buy in a store is archaic anyway.

FYI HERE ARE THE NEW CALIFORNIA LAWS THAT TAKE EFFECT JANUARY 1st:

- first year of community college will be free for all new students (must be full time)
- recreational marijuana legal to purchase
- vehicle registration will cost $25 to $175 more based on the value of your car
- minimum wage up to $11 per hour
- Sanctuary State law will limit local cooperation/resources with ICE
- guns banned at all public schools even for those with concealed carry permits
- all ammunition purchases (or pickups) must be made in person
- gender identity no longer a requirement on IDs
- baby changing tables will be required in all restrooms, including men's
- pet stores will only be able to sell rescue animals (sp. dogs, cats, rabbits)
- employers will no longer be able to ask for your salary/benefits history, and must provide a pay-scale for the job upon request
- wearing a seat belt on buses will become mandatory for those with seat belts. Buses carrying children aged 8-16 must provide seat belts
- free tampons and pads must be in at least half of all restrooms in public schools that serve low-income areas (defined as 40% poverty or more)

(Compiled by Laura Friedman, CA District 43 Assemblyperson, thank you!)”

So how far is California from requiring a suspect description to include gender queer non-binary?

this is actually really wise.

No it is not. It is a stupid law written by those who does not have to feel the consequences of said law. A better law would be to incentiveize rescues rather than forcing that only rescues be sold.
Why not make all clothes stores sell only donated/thrown away clothes? Why not make all retail be used.

So the rich will just go to Arizona, Oregon, and Nevada to buy pets while the poor will be forced to purchase rescues.

Stupid law with good intentions. Typical government thinking. Incompetent execution of a descent idea.

Yeah, you're right. I kind of misread it (it's early) and didn't think it through.

I just don't like pet stores and selling pets so I guess this ringed right at first.

Good laws, tbh. The community college one is really cool. Hpefully they can institute more job placement or work study programs to help the students beyond or during their first year.

People can still buy puppies from breeders, they won’t have to go out of state to do it. Puppies aren’t cheap, pet store or not, so poor people who get puppies aren’t getting them from a pet shop anyway.

Puppy mills are an absolute nightmare and if this law helps a few go out of business, I’m all for it.

Good point. Now I'm really uncertain. Apparently it's very easy to change my mind today

dont have a problem with any other then the ice one. Also i wonder if the vehicle registration one is old or new. They just did a huge hike on vehicle registration this past year. Is this a new one already?

How can I invest in the demise of California??? Insurance stock?

that tampon law is really.. weird.

i wonder if the pet one will generate a pressure for intentionally creating 'rescue' animals some how.
