Opinion New Assistant Health Secretary is....Transgender.

Current Pennsylvania Secretary of Health, pediatrician, Penn State Professor of Pediatrics and Psychiatry, former Pennsylvania Physician General. Undergrad at Harvard, Tulane Med School graduate, residency at Mt. Sinai. Qualifications don't seem to be in doubt. Just a question of whether being transgender should be disqualifying, which I don't see a good argument for.

Progressives care about progressive policy. We don't get hyped over a neoliberal just because of their identity as a woman or a racial, religious, gender or sexual minority. Look at who got hyped over Wall Street Pete Boot Edge Edge. It was liberals and Boomers. It wasn't progressives and Millennials. He wasn't even particularly supported by the LGBTQ community, as you can see from this panel:



It's hard to tell what Levine's particular political ideology or philosophy is. But Levine wasn't a pick that progressives were hyped for, unlike Marcia Fudge.

Did she? I didn't see that. I was under the impression it was something she wrote around 1994 and she graduated in 1997. So she was 19 when she wrote that.

But I guess my main point is that when our cabinet members meet with foreign dignitaries, she's not going to make us look like a joke. They're not going to know or think about some bullshit she wrote as a freshman or sophomore. If that was the standard, A LOT of people would be fucked. Don't think that should be the standard.

PS - I literally can't find anything about her making the same argument recently. FWIW, she claims that her article was a satire against The Bell Curve. I do know that some of the things in her article were directly taken from the book and the research cited in the book, such as information about how black babies develop quicker than white and Asian babies. So I suppose it's possible, although that could also be revisionist history on her part and a convenient excuse. If you have a source, please post it. Anyway, here's my source:
