Never Watched One Episode of GOT

First season was good and it gets better.

You really shouldn't expect to like every piece of fiction, no matter how widely accepted it is to be great, which The Wire is.

'Widely' is a very subjective term. Most people I've heard of that watched it when it was on TV, and a few years afterward on DVD, loved it. But also most people I've talked to that heard about how great it is and tried watching it over the last few years, didn't like it as much.

The Wire ran for 5 seasons in the early 2000s, right? I'm estimating it was GREAT for its time, but watching it now comparing it to modern TV shows.... its lost its luster.

I guess I can compare it to my favorite videogames of that era. They're still awesome in my perspective, but if I doubt a modern teenage gamer would appreciate PS2 or original X-Box games.

Widely isn't really subjective though. The vast majority of the people who watched it liked it, both critics and the general viewership.

Comparing it to the TV shows that it helped mold? I mean, that's not really a good way to judge works of fiction, or really any creative works. A lightbulb is shit compared to a spaceship.

Lol at The Wire elitist hipsters. GoT and BB are without a shadow of a doubt the GOAT TV shows.

Don't start watching it if you want it to end up as a bro power fantasy.

So how can you consider The Wire superior to any older show that influenced its making?

And out of curiosity, which aspects of GOT and BB show a palpable influence from The Wire?

I tried to watch it. I'm on like season 3. Its so slow paced, not for me

It's usually people that watch GOT that bring it up and then are in shock that you haven't watched.
It's usually that the GOT watchers are the majority, and some hipster doofus is the one who's too cool to be mainstream.

Maybe that type of show isn't interesting to everyone. Do you watch or listen to everything that is mainstream?

I watched the very first episode and wasn't impressed. Haven't seen an episode since.

I don't get people who refuse to watch something just to be a contrarian though. At least give it a shot. Watch the first episode, remember how great everyone thought the first few seasons were, and figure out if it's something that could potentially be cool.

Not watching at all is kind of lame.

That's the nature of a lot of discussion about popular art on the net I'd say, its less about enjoyment of whatever is being discussed and more about ego stroking.

Haven't watched a lick of Game of Thrones and just watched my first episode of Breaking Bad tonight. Meh so far.

Word I kNew you couldn’t back up your claim.

Claim?

You are posting your opinion.

I am posting my opinion.

Can't 'back up' opinions because they're purely subjective.

Some GoT fanboys may post their opinion that GoT Seasons 7&8 were perfect and GoT is the undisputed #1 GOAT series, and all I'd say to that is...

The first episode of GoT isn't good.

20+ character introductions, with little to no context as to what is taking place where.

I remember watching the first episode right after it aired and thought... 'Wait, the kid found those two people fucking... and they throw him out of the tower... why?'

The show has a learning curve, but its very very worth it.
