International Nestlé accused of ‘risking health of babies for profit’ over added sugar in cereals sold in African countries

Soggies suck

I was sitting up at night
I was feeling so uptight
I was just fucking around
There was something dragging me down
Thinking of a bite to eat
Thought this would be really neat
Cheerios are stale that's beat
But Captain Crunch is fun to eat
Captain Crunch, Captan Crunch
He's inviting you to munch

Captain Crunch, Captain Crunch

Munch a bunch a munch a munch
Fuck my brain

Scoffing down this yellow wheat
Is making me feel kind of beat
My head is spinning round and round
Now my teeth are turning brown
My face is starting to come apart
From this overdose of starch
I really wish mom wasn't here
I'll have another box of beer

Captain Crunch, Captain Crunch
He's inviting you to munch
Captain Crunch, Captain Crunch
Munch a bunch a munch a munch

On the subject of shitty things Nestle does,

Groups accuse Nestlé, Centre Wellington of 'backroom deal' to privatize water
I remember this. This was around the time the Nestle CEO went on record, claiming that the idea that water is a human right was an "extreme" position.

Just all around good guys, Nestle. Squeaky clean. Hoarding the planet's fresh water, and pumping sugar into foods whenever they can get away with it.

Squeezing the world's poorest beast-feeding mothers, of all people, by misrepresenting an unnecessary product which they knew to be harmful and dependency-generating, on a schedule that suddenly increased in price, before taking a significant portion of the money thus pried from the fingers of poor mothers and giving it to lawyers and PR people to downplay what they had done - while continuing to do it.

I hear they make a lot of chocolate, too. I'm sure that's all going well.

- Batman has throw people on a acid vault for far less than that

Makes sense, Nestle is a horrible company and none of these mega corporations care about anything but more money. Fuck humanity, kill people faster so there's a quicker turn around.

Me, sprinkling white powder in some poor Africans stew

“Yes, yes, …Mmmmm! Taste it? That’s the taste of freedom! $4 U S Dollars please! Oh, you don’t have four u s dollars? Well that gold mine over there looks preeeetty good to me!

Nestle recalls infant formula batches in 25 countries over toxin risk

By Alexander Marrow and Oliver Hirt

  • Nestle recalls infant formula across Europe over toxin risk
  • Cereulide toxin detected in products, no illnesses reported
  • Largest product recall in Nestle's history, Austria says
  • Nestle hiking output, using other suppliers to reduce disruption
LONDON, Jan 6 (Reuters) - Nestle (NESN.S), opens new tab said it was recalling some batches of its infant nutrition products, including SMA, BEBA and NAN formulas, mostly in Europe, due to possible contamination with a toxin that can cause nausea and vomiting.

The recall, which began on a smaller scale in December, adds pressure on new Chief Executive Philipp Navratil, who is seeking to revive growth through a portfolio review after a period of management upheaval.

Nestle, which makes products ranging from KitKat to Nescafe, said late on Monday that no illnesses had been confirmed in connection with the recalled products.

After a quality issue was detected in an ingredient from a leading supplier, Nestle undertook "testing of all arachidonic acid oil and corresponding oil mixes used in the production of its potentially impacted infant nutrition products," a Nestle spokesperson said.

With testing complete, Nestle has recalled affected products and is activating alternative suppliers of arachidonic acid oil, ramping up production at several factories and accelerating the release of unaffected products from distribution centres to maintain supply.

FOOD POISONING SYMPTOMS CAN QUICKLY DEVELOP

Problems with baby formula can be damaging for companies. Reckitt (RKT.L), opens new tab is exploring options, including a sale, for its Mead Johnson business, which faces hundreds of lawsuits in the U.S. over claims - which it denies - that its infant formula can cause a fatal intestinal illness in premature babies.

Nestle, whose shares have fallen more than 3% in the last two sessions, controls almost a quarter of the $92.2 billion global infant nutrition market, according to SkyQuest Technology Group.

Nestle does not publish sales data, but infant formula is part of its Nutrition and Health Science division, which accounted for 16.6% of total sales of 91.4 billion Swiss francs ($115.4 billion) in 2024.

Nestle said the recall covered batches sold across Europe, as well as in Turkey and Argentina, due to possible contamination with cereulide, a toxin produced by some strains of Bacillus cereus.

The toxin "is unlikely to be deactivated or destroyed by cooking, using boiling water or when making the infant milk," said Britain's Food Standards Agency.
"Cereulide ... can cause food poisoning symptoms which can be quick to develop and include vomiting and stomach cramps," said Jane Rawling, head of incidents at the FSA.

LARGEST RECALL IN NESTLE HISTORY, SAYS AUSTRIAN MINISTRY

Austria's health ministry said the recall affected more than 800 products from over 10 Nestle factories and was the largest in the company's history. A Nestle spokesperson could not verify those figures.

Nestle published batch numbers for products sold in various countries that should not be consumed and said it was working to minimise supply disruption.

The company said it identified the potential risk at one factory in the Netherlands. Dutch food safety authority NVWA said Nestle's investigation showed the contaminated raw material had been used at multiple production sites, including outside the Netherlands.
