Media Brenda Schaub thinks Gable should train with GSP or DJ, instead of Jones

He's probably wrong, but he has trained with Jon before.. so, he'd know better than us- I guess.

Jones has the greatest in ring fight IQ ever. Not sure if that would make him a good coach but don’t dismiss Bones. Hes also a HW right now and very well rounded and still could fight.

I think him training with someone like Matt Hume, or Josh Barnett if you insist on a HW, would be better. Outside the PEDs when has either one of those people get in the news, especially for something bad. Erik Paulson might be another. He needs someone to help keep him in check.

a more sensible name to float as a potential Steveson trainer would be DC if anything. Obviously that's never going to be a thing but Cormier actually has a stable of wrestlers that have been doing well in MMA right now.

this is it. AKA is proven to produce champions that come from a wrestling base. even proven they have flexibility in their training methods seeing as Rockhold also became a champion there with a totally different style. plus he gets to get all the pointers from the famous Dagestanis.

Schaub probably thinks fighters should seek him out for advice. I got nothing but love for gsp and mighty mouse but dont see how either would be a better coach than jones for the heavier divisions.

Who has DJ or GSP trained?

(not trying to shit on them, asking because I don't know)

But Jones has huge fight IQ, he should be a great addition to any fighters team.
Doesn't that fight IQ apply to GSP & DJ as much as it would Jon?
Being great at something doesn't mean you are great at coaching to do that thing. Gretzky is one of the best examples, GOAT hockey player, meh as a coach.

What Jon will become as a coach is yet to be seen. Lets see him take a regular guy and make him a really good fighter.

“There’s only one Jon and that’s why he’s the GOAT,” he said during The Schaub Show. “The reason why he’s the GOAT is because of what he did inside the Octagon. He’s not the GOAT as far as outside the Octagon.

“If you’re going to take into consideration of the GOAT talk accomplishments inside the Octagon and outside the Octagon, it’s Mighty Mouse [Johnson]. It’s Mighty Mouse or it’s GSP. Those are guys that would be great mentors.”

true, because the cheating he did was usually outside the octagon , no one takes PDE inside the octagon

Ok, but then we go back to who has DJ or GSP coached? I heard DJ helping out in some camps, but never heard of a fighter that was mentored by him or GSP.

I mean we're less than 12 months out from Jones latest arrest, he's an all time great fighter but definitely not a good role model.

Brendan responds to his ex girlfriend. Tank Abbott thinks their romance is what got her into the UFC:

He's kinda right. Jone will limit his development as a fighter. He needs a real coach.
Same thing as Floyd does. He has a great eye for talent, but doesn't truly want to pass the torch.

You look at guys like Adrien Broner who completely came undone once he got close to the top.
Now Tank is seemingly looking to cash out since he waited a few years too long to catch a name like Loma at the perfect time.

I could see Jon having a similarly difficult time letting go of the spotlight farther down the line
