Team USA managed to get three wrestlers into the World finals:
61kg: Abasgadzhi Magomedov vs. Vito Arujau
70kg: Amir Yazdani vs. Zane Retherford
86kg: Hassan Yazdani vs. David Taylor
125kg: Amir Zare vs. Geno Petriashvili (Geno beat Mason Parris 8-6)

WTF Steveson withdrew? Can't blame the man if he just wants to get paid in the WWE but damn make up your mind.

Great first day. Awesome to see that Parris is right up there with the best in the world. He was losing on criteria to Petriashvili (former world champ who lost in the dying seconds to Steveson in the Olympic finals) and gave up 2 in desperation at the end.

Bonus about waking up at 4:30 and not being able to get back to sleep is that the World Championships are already on.

Kadimagomedov (guy who teched Dake at the Olympics), Chamizo, and (to a much lesser extent) Cam Amine out in qualifiers; and Sidakov nearly lost to Kentchadze (rough qualifier there). Anthony Valencia on Dake’s side of the bracket, too. 74kg is going to be fun.

Myles Amine going going for Bronze at 86kg.

Sorry.

Vito Arujao is a world champ. Quite the year for him.

Taylor pins Yazdani. 5-1 now, and 4 time World and 1 time Olympic Champion.
Read something that Yazdani is 73-0 against everyone not named David Taylor in that time frame. The guy would be an all-time great if Taylor never moved up.

He'd be a 2x Olympic and 6x World champ at 28 and probably win the Olympics next year. Ya, pretty impressive record if DT wasn't there.

I don't see the WWE panning out for him. And nowadays MMA is so advanced as it's own martial art that being such a great wrestler doesn't really mean you're gonna become champ. Gable should just focus on wrestling 3 quads and becoming the best ever. He's incredible. Belongs on the mat.

Agreed. Crazy that Parris now gets to sit out the trials.
