But in all seriousness, I've said since seeing him at Duke last year that I don't think he's going to be great long term. As long as his body holds up, he'll be awesome. But that build is not meant for Basketball. Jumping over and over at 300 lbs (and not close to 7 feet) his knees and back aren't going to last. And it's not like Kevin Love where he just needs to shed baby fat. He's built like this.

He should have a serious talk with Charles Barkley and ask Charles what the biggest regret of his NBA career is. Charles has a similar build and played at least 75 games in 6/8 seasons with Philly (3 times top-5 MVP voting, including a runner up to MJ), but he was actually in shape for most of that. Then he got the trade he wanted at age 28, played 76 games (won MVP) and reached the Finals his 1st season in PHO, then got fat and happy and never played more than 71 games in a season the rest of his career. At age 29. Never saw another Finals or top-5 MVP voting again

If Charles is honest with Zion I have to presume he'd touch on the importance of conditioning/diet

Maybe a small amount, but nothing significant without dropping muscle. And I don't think that helps him in all honesty. Zion is pretty fucking solid. Kevin Love was just fat.

Better to just be able to physically dominate players for a few years than try to lose muscle and have to develop a whole different game. Plus, I don't think it would help. He's built wide, his legs are like tree trunks, this is how his body is supposed to be built. I'm amazed no one ever turned him into a lineman.

I'd rather he talk to Malone and learn how to use that fat ass without trying to play above the rim. Malone's longevity, durability and effectiveness into his late 30's is insane given his build and the fact he barely jumped the second half of his career.

I'm shocked the Grizzlies are even kind of middle of the pack, but there is still a good chance they plateau off and come crashing back down. Shit conference helps the "playoff push" lol. Good teams or even a bad team that plays good can beat them but I like to hope they are just having a bad couple games lol

The question here is whether YOU were actually watching those seasons IWB was referring to. Malone's game went from overwhelming opponents with athleticism-based bully ball and fast breaks to almost exclusively halfcourt pickNrolls/pickNpops with Stock and midrange turnarounds interspersed with occasional slow low post backdowns (that aren't even allowed today) for little hook/push shots in the lane

Malone won MVP in '97 and '99. The Assisted On % stat only goes back to 2000-01 but in his 4 seasons where the stat was tracked and still a 20+ ppg scorer Malone was assisted on over 80% of his FGs lol. The style of game Malone was playing that IWB is referring to was heavily dependent on system, and Malone had the GOAT facilitator running that system
