I agree with OP. Diaz didn't have his fist to the side of McGregor's face, it was purposely put right in front of Mcgregor's eyes to block him. Diaz was playing a little game and lost.

But I also agree that even though McGregor slapped Diaz's hand away with his under-fist it should have been an open-hand slap if anything.

Thing is most guys have a brain between their ears and realize this is a profession and act accordingly. If Nate's hand is injured and he can't fight and Conor doesn't get a replacement on 2 days notice u think he's gonna be happy he missed out on a payday?
