Crime Nancy Pelosi & The Butchers of Beijing: Top Gun Maverack

Heh, she's the OG of that shit.

It gets better (albeit unrelated).

http://www.sfgate.com/politics/amp/Pelosi-calls-for-prosecution-of-violent-antifa-12162909.php

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is calling for the prosecution of violent members of the group known as ANTIFA, or anti-fascists.

"Our democracy has no room for inciting violence or endangering the public, no matter the ideology of those who commit such acts," Pelosi said in a statement. "The violent actions of people calling themselves Antifa deserve unequivocal condemnation, and the perpetrators should be arrested and prosecuted."

The San Francisco Democrat was quick to separate Antifa from the Democratic Party, telling The Denver Post's editorial board on Wednesday: "You're not talking about the far left of the Democratic Party — they're not even Democrats. A lot of them are socialist or anarchist or whatever."

You are making my life complicated dude.

I read up on Nancy's tough stance on China last year. I was as surprised as anyone.

I told my girl that I loathe nearly everything else about Pelosi but she has my support and, dare I say, some admiration for her words and actions concerning China.

I schooled my boyfriend on her too and was like, "You know, this is the Queen" and he was just like, "Oh". He isn't really interested in this kind of stuff. :(

@Rebelfett Not only will there be no burying of the hatchet for this 30+ year old conflict, but I wouldn't be surprised if Nancy P drives it right through the CCP's skull on her way out the door. Enemies Forever. <45>

"For heads of state to go to China in light of a genocide that is ongoing while you're sitting there in your seats really begs the question: what moral authority do you have to speak about human rights any place in the world if you're willing to pay your respects to the Chinese government as it commits genocide?"

How many Winter Olympians live within her district? With that said, how many Winter driven businesses are in her district?

'80 boycott was a mistake.

If she is going to call for a boycott for China hosting the Olympics, she must also:

1. Plan for a backup. For instance, the US better be ready to host the winter Olympics to give athletes and countries an alternative.

2. Be willing to call for a boycott if the Qatar World Cup.

2A. The US talked about this a little while ago. I believe our soccer federation has been told to ensure out MLS hosting sites should be ready to host just in case a boycott is enacted.

It's hard to gauge how serious she is about going through with an actual boycott (I guess we'll see), but she's definitely deliberately looking to shit all over the CCP here and hardly mincing words.

Wait a darn minute. The war room told me all democrat leadership were Chinese puppets!

It puts the Biden Admin in an uncomfortable position, but intraparty criticism would hardly be anything new if she takes it there next given how frequently she was quite directly blasting the Clinton White House over its engagement strategy and policy.

Well credit where credit is due to both Nancy Pelosi for standing up to the CCP bully and @Deorum for bringing the receipts. I can still dislike her for other reasons, but on this issue she is a fucking goddess of war and I can admit it.

I always tell @ElKarlo imagine if she had been POTUS during the 1990s or early 2000s, FFS. That is actually when all of the consequential shit was going down, and what we're dealing with today is a direct consequence of her standing practically alone against the rise of a country which was enabled by a very broad bipartisan "effort" between both parties that included the White House, Senate and House of Representatives through relentless lobbying of corporate elites in the private sector.
Imagine if Clinton or Bush (or Biden) had this stance.

"The President's decision to extend Most Favored Nation (MFN) trade status to China demonstrates business as usual in U.S.- China policy. I am disappointed that President Clinton has chosen to continue a failed policy. Since he delinked trade from human rights three years ago, the human rights situation in China and Tibet has deteriorated, the U.S. trade deficit with China has soared, and China's authoritarian government has continued its sale of biological, chemical, and nuclear weapons technology.

Unfortunately, once again, the Administration has chosen to hold U.S.-China policy hostage to the profits of a few exporting elites at the expense of most products made in America. Instead, we should have a policy of sustainable engagement, an engagement which sustains our economy, our values and the safety of our world.

President Clinton's China speech was masterful in its craftiness in whitewashing China's record. With this speech, President Clinton has tried to justify the failure of his trade policy and the failure of his human rights policy with a fiction of China's cooperation on proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

The President cited the importance of the U.S.-China trade relationship. Yet, he ignores the burgeoning U.S. trade deficit with China of $50 billion in 1997, conservatively estimated to be $63 billion in 1998. He speaks of growth in U.S. exports to China, but is silent on the overshadowing growth in U.S. imports from China.

And, unbelievably the President is even saying that China is moving toward becoming a thriving democracy. Yet, he ignores the continued pattern of repression -- the arrest, detention, exile or harassment of those peacefully expressing their political or religious beliefs in China and Tibet -- by the Chinese government."

Yeah interesting point. that was when things could have been done and the leverage the west had was so massive

As with many people, she has seen a mental decline. Kinda like Bill Gross from Janus, guy was the bond king and he was incredibly intelligent. Now, he just doesn’t have it at all. Still smart but no longer someone I seek out when he says something

The rise of China - decades of both proactive and passive encouragement by the US, facilitating their rise.

Sad thing is that the China-experts always knew a reform would never happen, I like watching pre-2008 and pre-Xi lectures and interviews with the hindsight we now have.

You have to give Jiang Zemin some credit, he played around with the liberalization card that we projected on to them - even though he was a hardliner that backed the killing of Tiananmen protesters.

It makes zero sense on hindsight. But of course we weren’t actually paying attention.
