"I would say it is a combination of the two. We always called it Tani Otoshi.
If you look at the sites I listed neither show it like I did. I have a different grip for the throw. Its based on s surprise grip and executed right off the grip. The ending could be varied. "

Thanks for the message.

Its a nice technique, Udo Quellmalz pulled off his variant off the grip break a few times in the world championships or olympics. its controversial in judo, because if the arm is straight its considered an "armlock throw" and illegal but its fine if the arm is bent.

Out of curiosity any judoka know if rolling kimuras (sumi gaeshi with a ude garami grip) are legal in judo?

You can have the grip but not the sub sunk in I would think, like starting the sub (cranking it) standing and going to the ground with it,

/\ iam just going by bill and hes hardcore kodakan what he says go in my book when it comes to judo .

the throw in the video imo is a tani otoshi its from what i have seen in video's and books and what bill says .

i understand the sukui nage remark but theres no arm comming around the waist .

iam thinking way to much in a kata aspect cuz in about a year i want to go for my brown belt .

Yeah I figured it was sukui nage because the arm goes around and under the leg, like the link on the judoinfo site. It looks like identical to me.
