Limelight My big stupid hype trains thread.

Fuuuuuck the UFC scouts actually making good signings again, this sucks. I wanted Abus vs Van Steenis, Bellator MW needs the blood badly (though I guess the UFC's does too). First Gamrot and Duplessis, now Abus, UFC's been getting all the decent free agents from KSW.

Honestly don't know how he got the rep as a boring fighter, very unique kicking game and solid finisher.

Francesco Patron

Country - Mexico
Weight Class - Bantamweight
Age : 20
Promotion - Lux Fight League
Record - 8-0

Another one of these exciting lighter weight classes Mexican prospects, Patron is both dangerous both on the feet and on the ground. He showed a nice variety of shot selection on the feet in this fight as well as a nice variety of subs on the ground, attacking with a kneebar, toehold, heel hook, rear naked choke and finally getting the finish with an armbar.

Also noted from the show

- Irvin Amaya (25/Mexico/BW/5-1) - Showed really nice movement and really nice hands while beating a guy with a similar record, so doing it against decent competition. I'd be very interested in seeing him and Patron face off.

- Tani Torres (27/Mexico/SW/5-0) - Won an absolute classic just bleed war with Saray Orozco. Came really close to getting finished in the 2nd round but managed to tough through it, stay in the fight, carry on and get back behind her effective boxing to win the fight on the scorecards.

- Saray Orozco (30/Mexico/SW/6-5) - The other half of the war with Torres and much better than her record suggests as most of the girls she's lost to are either in the UFC or on the Contender Series this year. Tough as shit and hits pretty hard too.

This week we have..

UWC on Friday (Fight Pass)

- Christian Quinonez (25/Mexico/BW/15-3) who's got a Fight Pass profile so I think will be on the Contender Series assuming everything goes smoothly, he has a win over Lockdog who's in my rankings, so looking forward to watching him. He defends his title against 4-1 Jaime Alvarez
- Andres Luna Martinetti (25/Ecuador/FLW/10-0) fighting 6-5 Francisco Benitez
- Braian Gonzalez (24/Argentina/BW/8-1) who's only ever lost to Umar Nurmagomedov fights 0-3 Brandon Uruchutu in a can crushing affair.

PFL on Friday

- #3 WW Ray Cooper III (28/USA/WW/22-7-1) has the biggest name fight of his career against Rory MacDonald
- #2 WW Magomed Magomedkerimov (31/Russia/WW/28-4) should pretty much walk through late replacement 9-5-2 Sadibou Sy
- Raush Manfio (29/Brazil/LW/13-3) looks to keep the upsets going against Clay Collard
- #15 LW Alex Martinez (27/Paraguay/LW/8-1) tries to get a 2nd victory over the number one seed in the tournament Loik Radzhabov (30/Tajikistan/LW/14-3-1)
- #14 LW Magomed Umalatov (29/Russia/LW/10-0) should have a fairly easy night against 15-8 Micah Terrill
- Elvin Espinoza (28/Nicaragua/LW/5-0) takes some decent comp for the first time against Hopeton Stewart (27/USA/LW/5-1)

EFC (the African one) on Friday

- Cameron Saaiman (20/South Africa/BW/3-0) fights 3-4 Roevan De Beer

- Ayk Kazaryan (27/Armenia/FW/10-1) challenges for the title against 14-6 Alimardan Abdykaarov

- Arseniy Smirnov (30/Russia/MW/9-1 takes on 8-2 Argentine Lucas Alsina

CFFC on Saturday (Fight Pass)

- Christian Rodriguez (23/USA/BW/5-0) is still showing on tap against Jerrell Hodge, but I was under the impression that was cancelled as Rodriguez now has a DWCS fight booked.
- DeAndre Anderson (24/USA/FW/4-0) fights Jose Perez (26/USA/FW/4-0)
- James Lyons (25/USA/FW/2-0) who I liked the look of last time I saw him fights Timothy Cuamba (?/USA/FW/2-0)

Unified MMA on Saturday (Fight Pass)

- Graham Park (32/Canada/LHW/7-2) fights 9-9 Neil Berry

WFL on Sunday

- Losene Keita (23/Guinea/WW/5-0) fights 12-8 Maarten Wouters

Umalatov is really good, I hope if he wins this fight the UFC picks him up instantly. And hopefully after this season we either get Magomed Magomedkerimov or Ray Cooper III, whichever loses since I know the champs clause forces the winner to return. We definitely need it with how thin and recycled the division has become.

DeAndre Anderson is very interesting to me. He seemingly won't take a hint. He's a former college wrestler, dropped out to pursue MMA. He's 4-0 in Pro MMA. He's 0-3 in his boxing fights. Maybe take a hint you know...no one is good at everything and maybe you're just not good at some things and shouldn't try them...in a cage either...

I don't think the PFL champions clause is indefinite. I know Kayla can leave this season even if she wins. I'm not sure what the status is in years remaining is for either Cooper or Magomed.

You'd have to think they'd be all over Cooper. Exciting fighter, American and a finisher.

About Open FC -- according to them Roverso has some health issue so fight is not happening and Duyshobay fights Grozin for interim belt at Open FC 9 this month.

I keep expecting to see him on the list of contender series fighters. Dude certainly deserves an opportunity.
Says he is a free agent and waiting for a UFC opportunity. He is young, exciting, and at FW there are many fun match ups for him. I dont think there is a cap on Mexicans in the UFC, so this looks like a no-brainer for me.

I am confused Nick Diaz can get this Martin Sano Jr. into the UFC with a 4-2-1 record but Khabib Nurmagomedov cannot get any of his guys in? Who is Martin Sano Jr.?

Sano is Nick Diaz’s best friend. The UFC is reliant on the American market and the Diaz bros sell more PPVs then Khabib

First of all, Khabib does get quite a few fighters into the UFC.

And secondly, of course Diaz can. He got Dana to accept the wrestler Nick Maximov, if he can get the UFC to take a wrestler he can get the UFC to take a 4-2-1 journeyman.

Nick Maximov is from the US and Light heavy weight with a 6-0 record taking him seems a no brainer.

You would think but dana hates wrestlers...I think Nick won his bout on contender series against a HW like 30-26 across cards and still didn't get signed.

Ray Cooper III

Country - USA
Weight Class - Welterweight
Age : 28
Promotion - PFL
Record - 23-7-1

I'm not normally one for throwing out hype train posts after pretty boring performances, but I'm going to make an exception here. I'm making an exception because I simply haven't seen anyone dominate Rory MacDonald as comfortably as that since he fought Wonderboy*. Even though Rory doesn't seem to have the fire in his belly anymore, he's still a consummate martial artist and he couldn't get into this fight at all, when he's been competitive with just about everyone else he's fought.

Ray showed really solid wrestling and top pressure to go along with the KO power we already knew he had. I knew he had wrestling and a top game in his back pocket, but I didn't know it was good enough to dominate someone like Rory.

*apart from Mousasi, I forgot about that fight when I was typing this, but I guess that was at a higher weight class.
