6 and 5 in title fights with boring close wins doesn’t get you anywhere close to top 10there is no argument. He is in the top 10,
it goes
Jon Jones
Anderson
GSP
Izzy
DC
Usman
MightyMouse
Cyborg/nunes
Aldo
Khabib
Yeah might have to give it a read, that other guy was talking about it as well. Wonder if he did an audiobook version, probably notMight want to read Hughes book sir.

I did it’s from the UFC statsWhy don't you post what that stat even is?? I'm guessing it's the number of total title fight wins and if he has 8 then they are including the interim title against Kelvin freaking Gastelum.
So that interim fight counts but Silva's fight with Lutter isn't counted since Lutter missed weight. Crappy criteria right there.
You cut out the part where it lists what it is tho. Going to check UFC stats but yeah. It is super impressive either way. It's just one criteria tho. To some extent we have to count other stuff like overall win streak, opponents beaten etc..I did it’s from the UFC stats
What page is the quote from his book?9 title fight wins.
Matt had 7 total title defenses, 5 in his first championship run and 2 in his 2nd run as champ, *but he defeated Royce Gracie and Joe Riggs in non title fights as UFC champ, so it is basically a technicality that he has 9 title fight wins and 7 title defenses rather than 11 title fight wins and 9 defenses.
The Riggs fight, Joe Riggs missed weight, that is not Matt's fault.
The Royce Gracie fight was at 175. The outcome would not have been any different if the fight was at 170.
Matt had a record of 41-4 prior to GSP losses he held the title from late 2001- late 2006, 5 years basically as champ and he avenged the BJ loss via stoppage.
I my memory is correct I believe he had the most title fight wins, the most title defenses and longest tenure of days as champ in UFC history at the time (late 2006).
In his 12 title fights Hughes only went to the judges ONE time. Against Sherk who was unbeaten in 20 fights prior to Hughes and went unbeaten in another 12 fights after losing to Hughes. 8 finishes in 9 title fight wins is probably the highest finish percentage (of wins) ever.
Matt Hughes as a fighter is actually massively under rated in my opinion. People who were talking about Usman or Woodley above Matt as #2 WW of all time should be laughed at.
Title fight finishes
Hughes 8*, Usman 3, Woodley 2.
(Plus also R1 finished Royce and Riggs as champ)
Title fight wins
Hughes 9,Usman 6, Woodley 4
# of unique opponents beaten in title fights:
Hughes 7, Usman 3, Woodley 4
having said all that in support of why Matt deserves high praise and recognition as a fighter, in his book he brags about animal abuse and sexual assault/date rape.
As I recall he expressed no remorse and made no apologies for these actions in the book.
So when people speak about Matt as a person and his actions which he CHOSE to make public, those opinions are firmly rooted in facts.
