My ADD Training Log

405lbs is a great milestone!

I am a terrible judge of these things, but it looks to me like the depth is not *quite* there. Do you have a plan? Maybe TNG-type box squats? In addition to whatever exercises and technique work, I strongly recommend doing lots of Asian squats.

Thanks, Jaunty - I agree with you. And yes, I'm doing a lot of asian squats and waiter's bows & other hip mobility work. The best thing for me I think was when I started squatting 3 days a week. My squats have really improved a TON over the last 6 months.

On the 405 attempt, I felt some pain in my right adductor on the way down, so it felt like I pulled up a bit short. I had no problem with the weight going up though. I'm confident the depth will come as long as I continue trying to improve it & keep squatting.

I foam-rolled, but I'm still a little sore.

I may need a nurse.

2012 GOALS

I've been thinking about what I want to accomplish in 2012, and I have some specific lifting and throwing goals, here are some things I need to do with my training to get where I want to be:

TRAINING
1) Assistance Work. I need to work HARD on my assistance exercises. In 2011, I ignored assistance too often, or didn't go after it with enough intensity. I need to change this.
a) Start doing ab work. Ab work from BJJ is NOT enough.
b) Focus on Posterior Chain work.
c) Start training Triceps and biceps. Never been consistent with this at all.

2) Dynamic Effort Work. I think some focus on lighter speed & technique work will pay big dividends. When I started squatting 3x a week my squats improved tremendously. I want to figure out how to do some lighter work on off days for other lifts as well.

3) Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. More Consistency with my Jiu-jitsu training. This has been really difficult for me in the past 6 months, need to do better. If I'm consistent, I have a shot at getting my purple belt in 2012.

LIFTING GOALS (Current 1RM in parenthesis)
- Squat 455 (405)
- Bench 315 (305)
- Deadlift 500 (465)
- Strict Press Bodyweight (205 Press @ 215 BW)
- Push Press 250 (225)

THROWING GOALS
- Braemar Stone: 30'
- Open Stone: 40'
- LWFD: 50'
- HWFD: 21'
- Light Scottish Hammer: 80'
- Heavy Scottish Hammer: 65'
- WOB: 11'

Hey Calvus, with 2012 coming upon us, you are one year closer to throwing in the masters division :icon_lol:

Good question - I edited the post above to show my current lifts. I have a shot at hitting each of these in the 1st half of 2012.

Then what are you going to do the second half? Aim higher, dammit.

:)

1x205 <-- PR!!!

Still continuing my end of year quest for PRs...Set a big one today for Strict Overhead Press! Was stoked!! Hopefully I'll be able to set a PR for Push Press later this week.

Great pressing old man. You and I are virtually the same strength in the press, we should have a race to 225.

I guess you can't hang with us young guns anymore :icon_lol:

Congrats on the press. I remember lighter presses you had that looked harder.

Yep, absolutely - When I pressed 195 for a PR in September I struggled with it more.
