My ADD Training Log

Congrats Calvus! Your numbers look really good. My numbers didn't look good my first time around. Just a few pointers. Try to get a little more shoulder involvement with the hammer throw and try to keep the arms more straight. With the WOB, try to take more advantage of the momentum. You might want to get an extra swing in before you throw, it looks like you muscled that one a little. I could be wrong so tell me how you felt with it. With the weight for distance, your footwork looked good, I'm still working on my double spin. Only thing I would say is get lower, you were standing a little tall while spinning, but you had a good finish and follow through.

So an extra congrats, now you get to throw with the big boys :icon_twis That 56lb weight is a bitch.

Here's a pic of me with the War Hammer & the guy that got 2nd:

Badass!! Congrats on the win. How many other guys wore kilts? Youtube is really choppy right now so I'll have to watch the videos later.

Videos from Seaside Highland Games:

Heavy Scottish Hammer - Although I won this, my technique needs a lot of work.

Weight Over Bar (42 lb) *Lighter weight for Novice
Everyone missed 13', this was my 3rd attempt & sealed the victory.

Open Stone (16 lb)

Cool!

Makes me smile to see people doing "Highland Games" on the beach with palm trees.

Thanks man, on the hammer, I agree - need more shoulders & hips & need to keep the arms straight. I haven't practiced that much, so lots of work to do. I think I need to get a hammer at home. I found some instructions online to make a DIY hammer, so I might try that.

I think the WOB was ok, but I had no follow through. Also I think I can get more of a swing before pulling to use the momentum more.

On WFD, you're the 2nd person that told me I was standing up too tall, definately need to use my legs more & explode at the end. There's other details with my arm & everything as well.

I'm really glad I got this stuff on video so now I have a really good idea of what to work on. On my 37' open stone throw I was 2 feet from the trigg & need more leg engagement there. Also came around with my body too early. Hopefully I can get 40' in the spring.

Anyway, it was really fun & a great experience.

Everyone had to wear kilts while competing. This guy just took his off at the end.

Yea I could be wrong on the WOB. Could you send me those instructions you found? Either reply here or PM I don't mind. That would be appreciated.

On the WOB I saw people swinging it more times, I think for me extra swings arent going to help much, but I can definitely swing it higher & build more momentum.

Here is how I'm going to make my hammer - PVC, weight plates, Duct Tape: Hammers

Cool videos man - Nice work! Keep up the good work

Yeah really cool videos, and major points for the kilt! Bad assery all around!

Had a late workout tonight, but a good one. It's been really hot today & the garage was like a sauna, especially with the clothes dryer running. I think the hose maybe came off the back - it was ridiculous. Bench was tougher than it should have been, had some trouble with my setup.

It may be the early 80s in me but every time I see an unsteathed bladed weapon i think of DUNE and the fact they if they drew their knive they had to draw blood.

Finally watched the vids last night, looks like fun. I love the Scottish Hammer throw because it looks like you are casually chucking it over your shoulder without looking behind you while a bunch of dudes in kilts just stand there like having a hammer thrown toward them is no big deal.
