Ya think those documents are going to have the list of the 200 communists in the state department McCarthy was talking about too?
Spying =/= political partyYou are probably joking, but McCarthy wasn't all that wrong.

"It has long been known that the Communist Party of the United States of America (CPUSA) had been paid for by the Soviet Union. But acknowledgment of even this truth has been hard to come by. In liberal and leftist circles the term "Moscow gold" was accompanied most often by derisive laughter and the riposte that it was not Moscow gold but the paid dues of FBI informants that kept the CPUSA afloat. Actually, it was both.
Now comes more from vaults of the National Security Agency. In the 1940s, the NSA had a top-secret program called Venona which intercepted (and much later decoded) messages between Moscow and its American agents. The recent publication of a batch of Venona transcripts gives evidence that the Roosevelt and Truman administrations were rife with communist spies and political operatives who reported, directly or indirectly, to the Soviet government, much as their anti-communist opponents charged. The Age of McCarthyism, it turns out, was not the simple witch hunt of the innocent by the malevolent as two generations of high school and college students have been taught."
That's about 45% of the US voting-age population you're shitting on.
Carry on.
I guess he’s hitting the tv circuit now. According to him Sessions was clearly not telling the truth to congress on Russia.
It is but an amuse bouche. A mere taste of the deliciousness to come, seasoned with the salty tears of the this-is-it-ers and the Derpowitzes and a cooperative witnesses special sauce, served with a side of Faux News eating its own head trying to spin the disaster."The President of the United States hindered this investigation more than George Papadopoulos ever did," Breen said.
- Papadopoulos' defense attorney, Thomas Breen, pointed fingers at President Donald Trump.
Breen told a rapt courtroom that Papadopoulos has already faced his penalty over the past year, and realized he needed to disavow the Trump administration in favor of the truth.
"The message is for all of us to check our loyalty, to tell the truth, to help the good guys," Breen said. He recalled how he and attorney Robert Stanley and Papadopoulos visited the FBI office in Chicago months ago and noticed the photos of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Trump hanging on the lobby wall.
"We were going in there to cooperate potentially against those two individuals," he said.
With the sentence, the young man whom Trump administration officials called a "coffee boy" and whose family members have argued is caught in a spy conspiracy will become the first Trump campaign affiliate to have his criminal case reach its completion in the court system.
Better detail
About 25% of US adults voted for Trump. Where did you get 45%?
Holy shit. LMFAO.
Legit belly laugh
Point stands.Spying =/= political party
There's historical value in understanding the depth of McCarthyist America, but retroactively justifying political persecution- even tacitly- undercuts useful analysis of the bridge between then and now imo. McCarthy did a lot of damage, not only on a personal level to those who had their lives destroyed, but also on American political discourse in general. Furthermore, his reach extended well beyond allegations of communism and into social issues, such as the marginalization of what we now call the lgbt community. It's true that there were communist spies throughout our government. It's also true that Soviet spying only got better and more extreme as the years went by, and getting a bunch of screenwriters blacklisted did fuck all to curtail it.
You are probably joking, but McCarthy wasn't all that wrong.

There is a great deal of evidence of significant voter suppression in the 2016 election. They ain't all just dumb.
Point stands.

I actually kick it with Strombo a few times a year around LA. Friend of a friend.
Gerrymandering FTW.
