Gym/Training Muay Thai Gym Q&A

Rajadamnern Singha Muay Thai Academy is set to grand open their new 625 sqm flagship soon at Sukhumvit 23 near Asoke. They've already had their soft opening recently.

Are they closing the Thong Lor location? I hope not, there is a Bon Chon Chicken right next door. Nothing batter than working out next to Thai pop stars and then chowing down on fried chicken after.

Hahaha, fortunately it's business as usual at the Thong Lor branch. :D

Can anyone tell me just how bad training in Chiang mai will be in March? I didn't know anything about all the burning until I had booked my tickets!

I've read a few mixed opinions, including the training blog someone posted, but I wanted to see if anyone on here had any experience of it?

I was only going to be there for around 10 days, it seems it's fairly cheap there at that time of year and I could do with saving money, not if it's going to ruin my lungs though!

i'm in CM now. i haven't noticed the burning season at all. (yet)

Hey everyone! I am in Thailand, been here for 4 days now. Just got to Khao San rd. I am going to relax and chill for one week then start looking for a good camp.

Half backpack, half muay thai trip. lol

I am not interested in a hardcore training. I want to relax while training and having fun. Something social where I can meet people. Just like Sinbi. The deal is I visited Sinbi couple of years ago in 2011 and don't know if I want to get back to Phuket again. But wouldnt might if there isnt anything better.

Any recommondations? Heard Koh Samui is nice.
Also heard Chiang Mai. But worried about the burning season.

What would you guys recommend?

Also anyone here interested in meeting up? Would be nice meeting like minded people

Did you meet the trainer named Son at Sinbi? He just opened a gym in Samui.

Prakaysaeng Gaiyanghaadaogym is now training at Sitsongpeenong. Also, Monlit Sitphodaeng is (has been?) back as well.

well change of plans for myself, i will be looking at BKK gyms now the the protests are winding down.

a lot of you guys say always keep your schedule open ended, but i can only stay for 7 days and do not have time to go camp-to-camp.

13 coins is looking the best for me right now, it is cheap, 8,000 per week single AC room + training + 1 meal. a little bit of socialization at the big dinner table is what i've read. there was some bad reviews about 13 coins but i think it was only his personal experience. for over a year i've been doing self-training and i am comfortable being left alone. i would just get a few private sessions and be more proactive about asking the trainers to correct my mistakes. i understand that its a hit or miss depending on how much you put into training.

just wanted to make sure 13 coins is not among the obviously horrible gyms named on this forum.

BKK is also much easier for a foreigner to get around, with the metered taxi and the BTS. and a big factor over Phuket is that i really want to visit the Boon, Action Zone, and stadium shops.

You know you've just committed yourself to a full review of 13 Coins and your entire trip experience, right? :icon_chee

I would still go Chiang Mai, it's right up your alley. Lots of backpackers there.

Go fighting spirit unless you want a chance to meet saenchai if you are lucky.

If you're going to base it off of web reviews, I don't know how reliable those can be. I thought you had some insider info haha.

13 Coins has Saenchai, Saengmanee, and Pakorn there. Fighting Spirit has... a bunch of European tourists LOL.

I've heard that the accommodations at 13 Coins has left some folks unhappy (as has its location), but I don't think I've ever heard anything bad about the training there.

If not 13 Coins, perhaps zzz808303 can consider one of the other major BKK gyms like Petchyindee, Saengmorakot, FA Group, Kiatphontip, Kwaitong, etc. Fighting Spirit doesn't hold a candle to any of them IMHO.

thanks for the list Harukaze, the thing i've noticed is that apart from elite fight club, all the BKK gyms are all "20 minutes from the airport", so the location are all equally less than stellar? i will check out all the gyms listed and try to come up with a better idea etc. my impression is that 13 coins is like 2 star hotel, bit like holiday inn or ramada. i may splurge and go to Sitsonpeenong, but those real deal fighters' gym are sort of intimidating, oh wait is 13 coins one of them lol.

"20 minutes from the airport" due west is the center of metropolitan Bangkok. :icon_chee

see that's the thing, that review gave a horrible score, it is quite badly written and incoherent at spots.

http://www.myfightcamp.com/2011/08/gym-review-13-coins-muay-thai-mma-with.html this review rates 13 coins as "pretty good/decent" and comes with a video that gives you a good idea of the place.

myfightcamp's review happened 3 years ago compared to the muaythailand review last year, and muay thai gyms can change at any time depending on who is working there.

Thanks...My guess it's in either Chaweng Nathon?? The only gyms around Lamai i'm aware of is Jun, WMC and Pinoy

Not sure. Sorry. I've never been to Samui, just trained with Son a few times while he was at Sinbi and have watched him build and open this gym via Facebook.
