Gym/Training Muay Thai Gym Q&A

I got a love/hate feeling about 50 kicks on each leg on the pads. :)

I just heard bad things about booking accomodations at Phuket top team, don't do it.

I just noticed Santai's youtube channel is called "Muay Thai"

REALLY? NO ONE TOOK THAT? lmao.

Does anyone have a schedule of or know the class times for Mikes Gym? Their website is down and they don't respond to emails.

What did you hear? I was going to book at the end of the year.

I hear that they supposedly, "lose" your booking info and try to upsell you a different accomodation. Same happens with Tiger. Just book a hotel, try it out, and if you like it book the accomodation there so it doesn't happen.

ok thanks for the info

I hear a lot of bad things about siangboxing gym like the owner is a junkie who rip off foreigners for money and treat them like shit. I hear they're selling the place now though.

Of course this is all hearsay through other forums, so i can't confirm, anyone been to siangboxing?

and don;t do privates they will pair you up with some random

That was the last review I read on PTT on Muaythailand, if you want to get ripped off go ahead and book in advance. As for Siangboxing the owner announced it's sale on their facebook page.

PTT is a ripoff for guests. I went last summer and man I was not happy at all. To keep it short and to the point I'll just highlight some issues I experienced.

1) Noone picked me up at the airport, even though I prepaid and I emailed 2 days in advance with details, flight no. etc.
2) Toilets were often clogged, showers did not work properly
3) Booked privates with trainer, trainer no showed
4) Went to bangla stadium to watch fights, asked 500bht EACH guest (a shitload of money in thailand) for a ride there
5) Power was often out, no power in rooms, refrigerator

Well there we go, PTT is officially going down the shitter. The general consensus is that PTT had mixed reviews, this proves to be wary.

Moving on another topic, I do want to go back to Thailand around December/January for 3 weeks, but take a 1-1.5 week trip to Laos too. Dunno if I'm returning to Phuket, I might want to train in Chiang Mai or Bangkok. I also want to hit Pattaya for 2 days.

Anyone been to Laos? I want sight see and party at Vang Vieng.

I joined that Muaythailand forum and have been reading the reviews and i might skip phuket and try Santai muay thai in Chiang mai, Has anyone been? Got very good reviews on Muaythailand.

Thanks for the responses all.

I'm thinking I may not book in advance now, sounds like it's best to play it by ear. I emailed Maximum fitness and haven't had a reply, which doesn't bode well!

How easy is it to get around Phuket? I'm thinking of booking up maybe 2 weeks, then having a look around...

It has good reviews but you have to book well in advance because they limit the amount of students for quality and spots fill up very fast. I love Chiang mai, but Santai is 40 mins outisde of it. Did you look into Pai too? It's 4 hours from chiang mai and you could possibly visit on the weekends. The two camps there are pretty good.

I know there is a lot of bad shit about phuket, but I liked the place because it had something for everyone and lots of other people doing the same thing you're doing to hang out with.

If you man up and learn to drive a motorbike (can be done in an hour), but Phuket will be easy. If not, you can walk or bike to get food and items around you with no problem. You'll be tired from training anyway so you won't be going far during the week anyway (weekend is a different story). Taxis are more expensive than other places, but the price will go down if you get more people to join you. I would go to Phuket just for the muay thai experience with others.

Yeah i was also looking at Charn chai in Pai which also has very good reviews and very good rates. I won't be going until February at least so going to really look in to it make sure i make the right choice.

Bee at Charn Chai is a very good trainer. But I hated Pai. Stinky hippy backpackers.

Haha, Pai does seem a bit secluded for me is it hard to get to from Chiang mai? Will be a lot of traveling for me from London.
