Gym/Training Muay Thai Gym Q&A

Well there we go, PTT is officially going down the shitter. The general consensus is that PTT had mixed reviews, this proves to be wary.

Moving on another topic, I do want to go back to Thailand around December/January for 3 weeks, but take a 1-1.5 week trip to Laos too. Dunno if I'm returning to Phuket, I might want to train in Chiang Mai or Bangkok. I also want to hit Pattaya for 2 days.

Anyone been to Laos? I want sight see and party at Vang Vieng.

Dude, don't waste your time in Pattaya. Spend those 2 days in Bangkok instead, trust me.

What's wrong with the trip from Chiang mai to pai? 3 and 1/2 hours isn't too bad, is there something else I'm missing?

Oh I forgot to mention Burklek gym (only gym inside the city) has a new owner and a person training there says it's good, but small.

Bangkok is better than Pattaya for finding a thai girlfriend or something? :icon_chee I want to see and old man with a ladyboy lol.

I see this quote why i was looking it up

depending on the recklessness of your driver. Speeding along the winding, mountainous roads nearly always makes some people sick

I know its only 3 and 1/2 hours but add that on to the 18 hour journey for me to even get to Chiang mai it is a long old journey but it does look like it is worth the traveling!

Tall, skinny, pale, snooty hi-so girls >>>>>>>>>>> Dark muscular ladyboys from the sticks! :icon_lol:

But seriously, Pattaya grossed me out. I mean, all those fat Russians in speedos can never be unseen!

It seems singpatong is the consensus best gym in phuket ... Has anyone trained there ? Are they welcoming to non-professional fighters ? Planning the next trip for feb next year, would like to be near the beach but maybe it's just worth staying in Bangkok ?

I see, no wonder hippies to to Pai, you gotta be high to survive that drive up lol.

You'll see tons of Russians in speedos in phuket too, they must be stuck in a time warp or something.

I just heard singpatong was a gym where you train hard like some of the gyms in bangkok. Dunno if it's the best though. If you can survive hardcore training, you might want to look into sitsongpeenong opening another branch in phuket. Suwit is another hardcore training option too.

Their website says that they welcome "casuals", but will only permit fighters of a certain caliber and discipline to take their gym surname and represent them in competition.

Website is much better than I remember now, sounds good. I probably wont be fighting in thailand so the singpatong name won't be a problem. I'm interested in sitsongpeenong opening in Phuket, does anyone know where abouts ? I guess it'll be very expensive but

Speaking of kaewsamrit. Anyone heard anything about them in terms of Thai boxers? I know there are a few foreigners making their name from kaewsamrit said:
Obviously Singmanee is still a big name. Naka just recently fought and won at Lumpinee. Chanachai is still fighting, but I don't think he is interested in cutting weight anymore. Kaewkla is at the army. A lot of the kids are working their way up, fighting at Rajadamnern and winning. I think you will hear about a few of them in the years to come, Tiger and Bon specifically.

Slightly off topic, but how much cheaper is kit in Thailand? I'm in the market for Gloves and Shin guards - Better to wait a few months and buy out there?

If there isn't much price difference, I'm thinking it might be better to get them before hand to wear them in?

You can get 16oz gloves for 1100 baht and shins for 1200 baht in Bangkok.

Actionzone is priced well, but the gear there is limited and nothing fancy.

If you want fancier stuff at the Twins store at Lumpini it's a little more expensive, but you can't find those designs online. Still cheaper than US prices. I got a cool looking Twins Shinguard.

You should definitely buy all your gear there even though you can bring some (another mistake I made I carried too much shit with me. Don't bring two boxing gloves from home to thailand:/).

Bangkok is good and you can get some in Phuket for decent prices. Anywhere else and most likely you have to buy at camp which is more expensive but saves you the trouble of carrying tons of gear around.

Sitsongpeenong Phuket is currently in Kamala, but i believe it's only a temporary gym while they build their permanent Phuket gym.

Does anybody know where the permanent gym will be once it opens up??

Why don't you email Tim the owner? He's really helpful and responds (in my experience) within a day.
