Gym/Training Muay Thai Gym Q&A

I'm here alone, I actually prefer it this way as last time I had to find/do stuff that suited everyone. You will also be more tempted to party when in a group. On meeting people, just depends who's there at the gym at the time. I wouldn't book anything in advance. Try a few sessions before commiting. Really, it's easy just to try for 1-2 days and move. Try PSG if you don't like maximum. They are 15 mins walk away. I heard good things about maximum. I'll always say this, I don't care how big/good/clean a gym is, it depends if you click with your trainer. Everything else is secondary.

Deathstriker any tips for things to see/ do in Chiang Mai?

Thanks for that.

I just had a few last minute nerves before booking, seems weird that I am going so far for a month all by my lonesome!!

Flights booked! I think I will head to Maximum first, maybe book accomm for a few days...

I've heard good things about Maximum and seen their fighters kick serious ass at Bangla. I hear the gym can get really hot though. 1-2 days is good, I would book a hotel for a few days to 1 week first. Sounds like a good plan, you may want to change the order of Sinbi and Maximum though.

There are plenty of things to do in Chiang Mai. I highly recommend Trekking for 2-3 days (be prepared to get dirty), Night Safari (buy food to feed the animals), Tiger Kingdom, and walking around town to look at temples (wat phra singh). Next time I'm doing Flight of the Gibbons.

There is also some good nightlife in and outside the moat of the city. Loi Kroh road is the red light district with bargirls and stuff. There are massage parlours around the city too if you don't like that stuff. I highly recommend checking out the night bazaar as there are tons of stuff you can buy and haggle for. I went there every single night.

I used Authentic Day Tours (good reviews on tripadvisor) for all my locations. Doi Suthep was kinda boring since if you've been to one temple, but you've pretty much been to all.

Didn't do Muay Thai though, my legs were killing me from a 2 day trek. I would check out Burklek's former gym (in the city), hongthong lek, or KC if I had the chance though.

Anyone had or heard anything about elite fight club?

Dunno about right now, but the last few reviews said it was decent (you gotta warm up yourself before pad rounds though, one of those self motivating gyms) and the facilities are really good. It's expensive if you take privates and one session though (privates 1200 baht and one session 800 baht, 1 week is 3000 baht), but I hear Gae is a really good trainer. Elite fight club is a german franchise in Bangkok. I wouldn't mind checking it out if I was training in bangkok, but the price is the only downside unless you really want to train in luxury air conditioning.

I know this has already been discussed on this thread, but I'm trying to budget for my trip and getting mixed opinions.

A few people on Trip advisor have said that a month in Patong will need 30,000 baht minimum - not including accommodation! This strikes me as a bit steep, as I could live in England quite comfortably for less than that!

Can anyone give me a ball park, assuming most of my time is spent trAining but obviously I will want the odd drink/massage/girl.

Any suggestions?

Food is will be around 300 baht, massages around 300 (happy ending a little more) too and a night out can go to around 3000 to 6000 baht depending how much you drink and or get ripped off.

Bangla stadium is 1300 baht if you buy the tickets from sinbi.

Tuk tuks around 500 baht to outside patong and 200 baht inside patong. Also out some money aside for more fun like movies and stuff.

Motorbike 250 baht a day.

Food can cost as little as 40b a meal depending how much you eat.

Edit: that's 40b a dish in Phuket.
Look for "local resturants" instead of "tourist resturants".

Don't know about Pinky,

Fighters that I know of that are still/have trained there with positive reviews are

* Lyubo Simeonov (Biggest Mofo you'll ever meet, Hencemen from Expendables 2)
MMA figher and kickboxer

* Illya Grad (Top Muay fighter from Israel)

* Micheal "Tomahawk" Thompson (WKN Champion) who just happened to have defeated Pornsanae on points in a Caged Muay Thai event in Australia

I going to Bangkok for Christmas and New Years. I want to check out Elite

I saw the news on Sings Status...Are they any good? And is Wang still there?
By the way Death, were you there for the Charity event fight back on the 7th? Good fights and do you know if David uploaded them to their youtube channel?

I may be down there for a week or 2 after my next fight (9th of October) Currently still at WMC lamai Samui :)

No I left on August 7th, I just saw Sing's facebook newsfeed. They didn't say anything about Wang so I think he should still be there. If you check their youtube channel the fights are up.

Maybe I should stop by Evolve next lol.

Hey Guys,

I have read through this entire thread, and I have a few questions.

Going to Thailand in 2014 spring for a month. Cant decide between sinbi and sitsongpeenong for a camp (training quality - Don't care about price). Also, what is a good month to go to avoid huge crowds, and get some 1 on 1 training? Anyone recommend any other good camps? I heard MTI was shit - is it still shit?

Thank you in advance.

How long have you been doing muay Thai? Spring should be fine.
