Gym/Training Muay Thai Gym Q&A

That doesn't make sense.

Maybe she meant her friends would be scared of her if she took up Muay Thai?

I don't think that's what she meant. She said she secretly checks on Samart's page every now and then but her friends would be scared of her if she followed him.

Just a few random questions:
Do you guys feel safe leaving your cash/passport in your room without an in-room safe?
One of the friends I'm coming with is insisting on a safe. Opinions please.

Is it worth bringing headgear? (winning if that makes any difference) Seems no one in Thailand wears them.

I have never used the safe in Thailand. I carry my cash with me. You won't need head gear. You likely won't spar hard.

Ok, here is my 2-3 month plan for Thailand (hopefully I finish my research paper and get to go in the summer).

2 weeks in Bangkok: Fighting Spirit Gym or Elite Fight Club.
1 week in Chiang Mai: KC, Chai Yai, or Lanna Gym.
1 week in Pattaya: Pattaya Muay Thai(old RMB gym). Fairtex seems outrageously expensive.
4 weeks in Phuket: Manop, Sumalee, Lion, Sinbi, Phuket Top Team. I'm still deciding and I plan to get a fight. I've been training MT at home for a year now.

Next 1-3 weeks: ??? relax, travel, and maybe train a little until I leave?

The first 4 weeks I plan to take 1 class a day to get accustomed to the training. I'm also debating whether or not to just spend 1 week in Bangkok, spend more time in Chiang Mai, or spend less days in Pattaya.

What do you guys think?

I was planning a week here a week there etc but ultimately I think I'll get more out of training staying at 1 gym instead of 4. (I'm going for 4 weeks)

On another note, I think I'm going to Phuket first for about a month and getting my fight done first before traveling elsewhere. Sinbi is looking real good to me now since I want to train hard and have options to do things.

I think every room and home I've ever stayed in has had a safe. So, if it's a necessity, it's an easy one to accommodate.

A traveling partner kept their passport on them, which is stupid. Then they passed out at a club and had their purse -- which contained their passport -- stolen. Not only should you not carry it on your person, but you should also make a couple of photocopies of your passport, leaving one at home with someone important and bringing one with you, keeping it separate from your real passport. This way, if you do happen to lose your passport, it'll make life easier for you at the embassy.

I remember that. I actually saw her at some MMA fights a few months ago. Weird

Anybody know of any gyms in Koh Samui with top quality training? I'm gonna have about a month and a half free this summer and thinking of heading over there to get some solid training in. Seems like a nice place to train hard without all the distractions of partying that you'd seem to have in Pattaya, Phuket, Bangkok etc. I've heard you can get that up in Chiang Mai, but the idea of reading and napping on the beach in between training sessions is also very appealing to me.

I will have been training muay thai for two years by the time I get out there, and I'm 24 year old guy, in pretty good shape already and plan to be in even better shape by the summer, so I'm looking for a gym that will could really take my game to the next level and get me ready to start doing some amateur fights.

Now I just have to convince my parents Thailand is safe wherever I'm going:/ Phuket is going to be a challenge and Pattaya a bigger one:/

Ive been wondering how 'bigger' fighters tend to do with extended stays in Thailand? My plan is to spend 2 months in the summer of 2014 there but worry the 2 meals a day at the gym wont suffice especially with 2-3 sessions of training per day. Obviously we can venture out and get more food, but was just wondering how other people dealt with this.

Don't tell your parents you're going to Pattaya.
Your mom is gonna go online, type it into Google and find a bunch of hooker pics.

I just tried it: Image results for the term "Pattaya"

Tell her you're going to "Chonburi" instead..

Much better haha
(Pattaya the city, Chonburi the province).
