Gym/Training Muay Thai Gym Q&A

Ive been wondering how 'bigger' fighters tend to do with extended stays in Thailand? My plan is to spend 2 months in the summer of 2014 there but worry the 2 meals a day at the gym wont suffice especially with 2-3 sessions of training per day. Obviously we can venture out and get more food, but was just wondering how other people dealt with this.

One of the things I like best about living in Thailand is the convenience of everything.
Unless you're training in some remote, isolated area, you won't have a problem finding food.

Don't tell your parents you're going to Pattaya.
Your mom is gonna go online, type it into Google and find a bunch of hooker pics.

I just tried it: Image results for the term "Pattaya"

Tell her you're going to "Chonburi" instead..

Much better haha
(Pattaya the city, Chonburi the province).

Thanks man, I just won't mention it.

Looks like I should be able to go, just gotta try to finish my research paper by the end of this month to book the tickets. I had to convince my mom that I knew where I was going was safe and that I wouldn't get into trouble. Still considering a few places for Phuket (Sinbi/Sumalee so far) so I'll keep you guys updated. I'm aiming for June/July.

Ryukyu Damashi I read somewhere (can't remember where) you were planning to go Emerald? Did you ever end up going?

I have a friend who just spent 6 months living and training at Rajabon. He loved it there.

I'm looking to improve my coaching/instruction of Muay Thai as much as my own training. Anybody have a particularly good experience in that area at one of these camps? Burklerk is the only place I can find that seems to emphasize that at all.

Burklek closed his gym (although there is a trainer there) because he didn't want it to suffer because he couldn't keep traveling 4 hours to there from Lampang where he keeps another gym.

Hi, Watcharachai Gym seems interesting. Is it crowded? The Trainer seems to be very impressive but it would be useless with a too crowded place, I guess.
I am planning to stay for 2Months in Thailand.
Definitely gonna party and hook up with girls, but not too much! So this would be my plan.
Koh Samui 3 Weeks (focusing on learning thai language, beach/party and much training inbetween!)
one Week Chiang Mai(less party, more training) and
one Month Bangkok( shit's getting serious, this is where the top level guys are. Fighting/Food, no party!)

I pretty much settled my mind to train in KC Chiang May Gym.
As for Koh Samui im drawned between Superpro, Maair or Pinyo Gym...
Bangkok kinda crowded with top level gyms.. Watcharai Gym seems to be pretty fine for price/ratio. I am not able to spend more than 20000 bath for Training and Living. More Alternatives for Bangkok Gyms are much appreciated!

Watcharachai was an excellent gym. All 3 of the trainers there were champions, and it was fairly priced, but unfortunately, it's closed now.

They were in an residential area and they had an annoying neighbor that kept calling the police and complaining about the noise.

Watcharachai is working in Malaysia now I believe.

KC is a good choice for Chiang Mai.

Most of the top fighters train out of Bangkok, so amazing gyms here, but a lot of the gyms overcharge a bit for rooms so if you're on a budget, you'd probably be better off finding an apartment on your own nearby and just working out a good rate for the training.

Thank you for your informative reply!
After reading some posts of your blog about the hardworking camps , it inspirated me to change my gameplan.
I'll probably skip Chiang Mai to focus more on the hopefully excellent training in bangkok.
I actually wanted to go to Koh Samui first and end my journey with Bangkok but.. the "fun" part of Thailand would probably spoil my motivation to train hard. So it will be the other way around and I will definitely shorten my Koh Samui holiday for my time in bangkok.
I hope I don't sound too overly motivated.

The 96 Penang Camp sounds great and might suit me very well. I am the kind of guy who doesn't only want sweat-inducing training, but also very technical Training to improve upon. Location still worries me though. So you have to still ride a motorbike to get from the train station to the gym? Walking would take too long or is impossible?

Rachanon seems a little too expensive for me. Do you know about the training prices only? They only listed the package prices.

Yes. Motorbike from the Khlong Toei MRT stop is the easiest way. Send me a PM and I'll put you in contact with someone who will help guide you if you're serious about training at 96 Penang.

V. good advice

Here is why you don't fight in bars in Pattaya. I found it amusing.

I wish the narrator in the "Illusions" video had some someone else. Literally anyone else.

I've only braved Pattaya a few times and was never lucky enough to see one of these fights. Only the standard, highly orchestrated Thai vs. Thai stuff.

Muay Thai Theater? Here you go, from the same guy.

I caught one fight at a bar on Walking Street last month where a white guy was getting completely schooled by a Thai guy with a beer gut; it was totally obvious that the Thai guy was toying with him without going in for the kill, hitting him hard enough to rock him a few times and throwing enough combo's to really make the white guy cover up, but letting him make it to the decision where the "ref" called it a draw hahaha!

I totally forgot about the fight since it completely paled in comparison to the Petyindee even on 4/9 at Lumpinee that I had the opportunity to attend. :D

That being said, I don't think I'd ever bother going to Pattaya again; Bangkok was a much more fascinating city IMHO and I feel like I barely scratched the surface this trip.

Ok, finally booked my ticket to Bangkok, I will be arriving at the end of May and staying for about 2 months. I plan to stay in Bangkok for 3 days to get use to the time zone then bus/ferry to Koh Phangan and stay there for about a month. Then head to Phuket after that for another month and maybe get a fight. Then 1 more week doing whatever.

I'll be there around that time. Heading back home on June 2nd. Holler at your boy if you happen to be in Bangkok on the 30th or the 1st and want to grab a beer.
