Gym/Training Muay Thai Gym Q&A

I have yet to meet a farang in Thailand who didn't or doesn't think it's worth every penny. For yourslef I would probably say in your case it's not worth it.

Based on me thinking it isn't worth it or based on the trainers near me ?

i've been questioning the same thing lately like why did I pick Thailand to just go and train when I have great striking coaches here in New York.

I'll never know unless I go so i'll be in Bangkok for 3 weeks in December - i'm thinking the main advantages of training in Thailand vs USA will be my free schedule and perhaps a forced mindset on training.

What is your total trip cost, if you don't mind me asking ?

Flights accommodation training food spends etc, the entire budget ?

Perhaps you should ask Liam Harrison for his views on training in Thailand.... I very much doubt he will tell you it's not worth it....

A little help guys; my little brother is flying to phuket for his on-the job-training. He's really interested to train & at least fight a couple of times before heading back home.

Here's the kicker-his work schedule starts at 7am till 4pm. I dont know the location of his work place & i dont know if muay thai gyms operate at night. If he couldn't find one open, what would be the best solution?

It would absolutely suck to be able to stay in thailand for 6 months & not train regularly. Any advice is deeply appreciated. Thanks.

Both?

Financially of course it is better to stay home, work and train x3/5 times a week.
That's not why we go nor is it the reason we keep going back.

For ME the first time I went iI thought it was like "disney land" for muaythai. I love the country, the people, the food, the culture and of course the muay thai training. Training with legends, going to famous stadiums etc.
Some people aren't into all this, some may even hate Thailand.

Anyway if money is your primary concern, dont do it.

He can do private training for 500-700 baht a session at pretty much any gym.

Can someone recommend me a good gym in Bangkok that focuses on clinching? I'm about 6'2 and want to improve my clinch game.

I've seen that FA Group is full of foreigners now, so I don't know if it would be a good idea to go over there. Beside that one, I don't know any other clinch gyms.

So what if FA Group has foreigners, it still has one of the best clinchers in the world there in Petchboonchu. Unless you speak Thai fluently, you'll probably benefit from a few more foreigners at the gym. :icon_lol:

Any one been to Saengmorakot or keatkhamtorn recently? I've been doing research on the two gyms but most of the information about it is from 2009 or earlier.

Anyone know what are their recent fees for training and training + accommodation?
And hows the training and stable of fighters are now compare to 4-5 yrs+ ago?

I'm trying to decide between saengmorakot or keatkhamtorn anyone got any more *updated* information on any of the 2 gyms?

Ideally I'm after a fighter gym to stay at for 3-5 months.

Cheers!

I've been training MMA on and off for about two years now, and after graduating, I intend to dedicate a year to training and competing in the sport.

I'm looking for a place I could get accommodation at relatively cheaply, and Thai camps like Phuket Top Team and Tiger Muay Thai seem to be popular spots for people to stay and train at, while providing accommodations. But since these are tourist hotspots too, I'm aware that the prices might be a little steep for the amount of training provided.

Can anyone who has trained in Thailand weigh in on this? What's the quality of MMA training like compared to gyms in other countries? And is it common for foreigners to stay at camps like these for up to a year?

Anyone going to be BKK or Phuket this Dec and early Jan?

Hey all, a friend and I are planning a trip to Phuket for a month from late may-late June. We are seriously torn between PTT, Sinbi, Tiger, and Dragon. Leaning towards Sinbi or Dragon. Only thing is that i was unable to find any info on the sinbi website in regards to one on one sessions with an instructor, if anyone has any info on that it would be greatly appreciated, same goes for any info on Dragon as there seems to be less info on that gym compared to the other three. Feel free to throw in any other advice/comments. Thanks
