Mtg nerds get in here!

Was introduced during Urza’s block. Loved it. Was probably responsible for my wife and I separating, lol. (Don’t worry, we patched things up.)

Favorite decks were as follows.....

Blue/White - Replenish - My all time favorite deck.
Black/Green - Deranged Hermit - Squirrel army represent.
Red - Old School burn deck. Mogg Fanatic for the win.
Green - Stompy - Loved playing Rancor
Blue - Control - Counter everything was the truth.
Red/Black - Land Destruction - Tricky but satisfying when it goes off.
Black - Swampy - Turn one Dark Ritual into a Phyrexian Negator.

I also have a soft spot for Cursed Scrolls and the Tinker deck.

I also loved buying and casually using the gold bordered championship decks. What a way to play high powered high cost decks without actually having to buy the actual cards.

Eventually kids entered the picture and I fell out of playing regularly. Which then had me selling off my collection for a paltry $1200. I kind of got the bug again playing Hearthstone, but the cost was too damn high for something you don’t physically own.

How cool. As far as squirrels did you ever make squirrels prison with squirell nest and opposition?

And ya red black land destruction was oppressive. 4 avalanche riders, 4 braids cabal minion as my win cons and the pillages, stone rains, sinkhole, smallpox.

Dam I got matched up with this kinda cute hippie Blondie and she was very bored with how I won. A more interactive deck might have gotten her phone number. But Braids is my girl.

<---stupid geek

If you have revised or older dual lands they are worth a lot.
Like $1300 a pop. My brothers used to have nearly 200 of those in total. They sold all of them off at around $30-$60 per card long, long, long ago.

Who would have thought the subculture that grew up on this game would eventually find themselves heavily concentrated in the wealthiest (especially new wealth) industry in the world. Magic: The Gathering is what baseball cards were in the 80's if all the dudes who bought baseball cards ended up making $300k/yr+ as software engineers in Silicon Valley.

Tons of cards but few people to play with.
I had a good 3 years in uni with my roomies where we would have some fun battles. I miss my old cards as a kid though, i had a habit of winning the awesome expensive ones in thr vending machines at the game store.

I think I have about 2-3k$ worth of cards that I play with in different decks. I only started playing about 10 years ago after high school. In high school I made fun of the nerds that played and I became one haha. Love the how complex games can get and liked playing on PSN, I know they have it on CPU but I don't like being on CPU's much since that's what I do for a living

Maybe the funnest part of the game for me was creating decks with what i had in my collection (collection being limited to the budget of a junior highschooler)... Loved rancor and was it Overrun? every creature gets 3/3 and trample? and Land destruction, you're right, a little costly but if you can pull it off its a game ender... and oh those deranged hermits... i sold some cards a few years back and 4 of them were hermies... i also really loved the tolarian academy/palicron (sp) infinite land combo... good times...

I know almost zero about MTG, but saw there's an upcoming collab with Final Fantasy VI, VII, VIII, 14. If I see packs, I may buy a few.

Was good up until about urzas imo.

tried getting into it a few times. Didn't work with me. I think the dephh of a cards isa bit too much and just removes tactical advantages.

The game has really been done a disservice by the recently former "leadership" at Wizards but it's turning around a bit with new leaders.

I can't stand the "universes beyond" bs but love Final Fantasy! I pre ordered two collectors boxes for $400 months ago and one of the two places is claiming they may have to cancel my order... Imagine that? The boxes spike up to $700+ and they claim they might have to cancel after holding my $400 for months! Fuckers...

Also, scooped a Revised Underground Sea recently for $625.

Still buying, not playing much...

There wa a time there where power creep and social agenda got wrapped up. It’s been slowly getting better. Standard needs to be healthy again. Commander has taken over.

I started playing and collecting Magic cards in '95. I played for around six years and was heavily involved until high school, when I stopped all together. I still have my collection and I'm seriously thinking of getting back into it and am wondering what need be known to get back up to date.

There has probably been 40 sets released since I stopped playing so I know there will be many new abilities which I will familiarize myself with as I ease in but what are some staples of the current game?

What are the "game types", what are plainswalkers, what sets/cards should I look to buy to get the standard "lightning bolts" or "counter spells" that all players have in their decks now? What is the deal with the Modern Masters/Eternal Masters sets being expensive comparatively and what are some of the valuable cards of the last decade+? Is there a good magazine out there like what Scrye or Inquest used to be? What else should I know?

I bought a booster box of Khans of Tarkir because I read "fetchlands" are a popular thing like duelies used to be or still are, and I got a box of Fate Reforged because they were a package deal on ebay. I'm thinking of also buying a booster box of Innistrad because I saw there is an $80 card, Illiana something... what say you bro's?
They just released Foundations which is a reprint set of a bunch of good stuff. It’s a good way to jump back in casually.

I don't do any of the actual card games, but the Magic games you can play online are fucking beast. Back in like 2011 there was one where you could play multiple formats with a ton of different decks online and you could customize them. I wasted a lot of time.

It's so easy when you can play online against people.

Prolly be after the Amano cards and specific characters in the Final Fantasy set.

Know an artist that did the art for a couple cards that'll be out in the next couple years. Can't wait to get those either.

I scooped 3 foundations collector boxes when tcgplayer had a sale for about $179 I think. And I'm a Rudy patron so I can get foundations boxes from him for $118 I believe. I actually like the Jumpstart format for beginners and/or casuals like me and any friends I play with who don't have the history or experience with the game that I do.

There's a game called MTG Forge (iirc) that's free and has every magic card printed available to play with and it's something of an adventure game with quests and enemies. Haven't played it but it worth looking into for mtg game fans.

Sure, he just happened to have a bunch of Kamigawa cards and a Beta Lotus? I have one too, I paid $3 for some Chinese man to proxy it...
