Mtg nerds get in here!

The reason there's an $80 card in Innistrad is because the rest of the set is garbage.

The newest set is based around dinosaurs and pirates with the ever reappearing vampires and merfolk. They are really scraping the barrel for ideas now.

Last set has cancel reprinted which is just a poor excuse for counterspell. Maybe I just don't have any interest left in the game. Been playing since '95 too.

Stopped playing after Tempest, started back up about 7 years ago, that lasted for 3-4 weeks. Luckily all the boxes of cards I bought all around $300 netted me about $1500 worth of profit about 4 years ago.

Sold my cards and haven't looked back.

Lost all my original cards from high school 15 years back or I would be rolling in the dough....

about to drop $1100 on a case of Ultimate Masters...

Play Magic Duels or Magic Arena on PC or XBONE. Both are free and a good way to get you caught up on all the modern sets and mechanics.

Started out in beta here. Stopped playing around 8th edition I believe. Tournaments started to become ridiculous. Net decking and power creep really killed shit. I see them in the store now and really don’t understand some of the game mechanics as they are presented.

I had full sets of unlimited through alliance, with 4x copies of most everything. A set of unlimited is worth almost $50k just by itself. Legends and Arabian Nights are worth a bit, too.

Only thing worthwhile to do is to see if you have any valuable old card in good condition and sell them, the market is ripe right now.

When I was young, I was a little cuck and used to help my brother pay for cards even though I didn't play.

I started playing and collecting Magic cards in '95. I played for around six years and was heavily involved until high school, when I stopped all together. I still have my collection and I'm seriously thinking of getting back into it and am wondering what need be known to get back up to date.

There has probably been 40 sets released since I stopped playing so I know there will be many new abilities which I will familiarize myself with as I ease in but what are some staples of the current game?

What are the "game types", what are plainswalkers, what sets/cards should I look to buy to get the standard "lightning bolts" or "counter spells" that all players have in their decks now? What is the deal with the Modern Masters/Eternal Masters sets being expensive comparatively and what are some of the valuable cards of the last decade+? Is there a good magazine out there like what Scrye or Inquest used to be? What else should I know?

I bought a booster box of Khans of Tarkir because I read "fetchlands" are a popular thing like duelies used to be or still are, and I got a box of Fate Reforged because they were a package deal on ebay. I'm thinking of also buying a booster box of Innistrad because I saw there is an $80 card, Illiana something... what say you bro's?

Iceage to shards vet .

Fuck type 2 if you want to spend that kind of money and time do blow at the titty bar you will probably have a better time and the money more well spent

Do take up legacy or commander and learn to do mad over powered combos with yesterdays mechanics and todays over powered cards

Dont play at the shop with smelly incels and weirdos

Do play at home with a small group of friends and make it fun.

I lost my all my shit in a housefire and i just dont play serious any more but every year when the battle decks come out i will buy 4 of each and i do enjoy me some elves vs goblins style a great deal. Magic for fun is a real blast but magic for serious in my opinion really sucks . Like a punk teenager I absolutely hate the scene and cant say enough bad things about it. Look dude you arent getting any pussy for a long time you just refereed to that chick as my lady and you smell worse than a portapotty at a landfill. Fuck off and die you stinky incel fucking dweebs

New Phyrexia is my favorite set. Kinda old one too. But bidding for new Phyrexia fat packs on eBay was exciting.

Invasion
New Phyrexia
Urzas saga

The 3 goat sets.

I play the format commander. 100 card deck, and you get to have a legendary creature as a replayable card even if it dies. Non competitive format and very popular. Half the time serious players arrive. They are why I haven't gamed in months. Fucking whiners.

Since I made this thread over a year ago I've gotten back into the game. I understand the new mechanics and formats. I prefer commander but very casually, have only played with friends but if i had more time I might get down with the local "incels", wherever that may be.

I've also bought dozens of booster boxes, at least one of every set in the last 2 years and many more. A few iconic, a few masters 17, a few dominaria and more... I also made investments in boxes which I'm sitting on till one day when they're worth selling... my job prevents me from playing more but affords me the disposable income to blow on packs... I also have incredible luck in cracking packs, got a few Amnk invocations from packs (edit > counterspell, daze) and a Nicol Bolas pre release promo...

Doubt cards coming out now will be worth much in the future. Look all the way back to 4th edition and ice age and shit from 1996 forward. None of these are worth much.

I went to school with a kid in NJ by the name of Jon Finkel and ended up having a move named after him.
