IMHO all religion is bullshit and brainwashing but if people want believe that's up to them. It's when those views limit me or my family or my friends rights, that I have a problem.

I've lived next to a church for the last 12 years, never had a problem with it. I did however when the priest, told my girlfriends daughter that we were living in sin because we were not married and told him to go fuck himself.

Many people, like me, argue for this sort of shift because we've seen how the previous religiously motivated values hurt and marginalized groups.

We've seen this not because of some MSM pressure but because we actually have family members in these marginalized groups.

There is certainly support at the grass roots level, but I have found that major civil movements require a lot of powerful support to get off the ground. Once things become political, it get's weird.

The gay marriage movement gets way more traction then say Occupy wall street. Personally I think the occupy wall street issues are more important in the grand scheme of things and touch a lot more people, but I don't get to decide what gets promoted.

The same thing would happen if someone said they believed marriage was between 2 people of the same race or that marriage doesn't require a woman's consent or that the front of the bus is for white people or any number of other things.

What a shocker that "group X is inferior to group Y and shouldn't be treated the same" would be something that would cause people to object.
