2nd Trailer for GRAN TURISMO Starring David Harbour, Orlando Bloom

@Dragonlordxxxxx I can confidently say no one predicted that Barbie would have an opening weekend to rival that of Marvel's biggest Tent Polls and a better start than anything for DC.
True. I was thinking a few months ago it would do well, like around $90 million opening weekend. But never would have expected it to debut at $150+ million.

Both leads in the "Barbie" film are very well liked, and the film appeals to children. This is one of those films where children want to see it, and parents are good with it too. Those type of films historically have made a smash at the box office.

Yeah all of those things are true and it's easy to say now in hindsight. But what @heavyarms21 was saying is that nobody here could have predicted the $150+ million opening weekend. Most, if not all, in here would have said $60 to $90 million if asked to guess the opening weekend a few months ago.

So here's a fun challenge for everybody. Predict what Aquaman 2's worldwide gross will be (poll in the link). Even if you cannot get the actual figures accurately, at least we can see if you thought the movie will flop, break even or make a profit.

James Wan is the 2nd best director that's risen to prominence in the last 20 years, 2nd to Nolan. So if he's getting so pissed at the studio he's threatening to sue its saying alot.

Doesn't matter if its coming out this year or next year, its guaranteed to be a dud for multiple reasons. #1 being James Gunn confirmed all movies before his Superman movie are Non-Canon... which killed any motivation for fans to see Aquaman2 or BlueBeetle.

Yeah, I agree. Films have also become less predictable that way since COVID.

No idea what it will make, but I expect it will underperform.

I can't seem to find any thing to corroborate this news other than the Instagram account you posted. None of my usual comic book sites are also reporting this. Is it possible that this is just a clickbait fake news?

I thought 60-70 mill and thought that would be huge for the film in and of itself.

That’s a staggering debut. I get that Robbie and Gosling are very well liked and that the film has cross-generational appeal but that is a massive weekend take. Never would have guessed.

Oppenheimer also did about thirty mill more than I expected. Nolan’s one of that small group of directors who can draw interest just by it being their project but a dialogue-heavy drama clocking in at 3 hours. 80 mill is really impressive.

*Sigh*

Yeah, that's very possible.

I'm un-subbing from that account.

Also I don't think Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling can open a movie before this. If I'm not mistaken, none of their previous lead movies did particularly well. Barbie is just a perfect combination of the IP's first live-action adaptation, good cast, good script and great word of mouth/social media explosion capturing the cultural zeitgeist.

@heavyarms21 Barbie's actual numbers are up and its $7 million higher than the estimated $155 million. So the official opening weekend is $162 million.

It looks silly. If they were going to do another Exorcist film, they should have done the actual story of the boy who inspired the original film. His actual story (as it was documented in Newspapers and eye witness interviews) deviates from the original film at least 90%. This was a missed opportunity.

My god that looks terrible. David Gordon green might be a genius actually. Get ahold of these franchises and add shitty installments so then no one wants to touch it ever again. Well done.

So I heard in passing, and disgust, there's another Saw film coming out this year.

Haven't heard anything about it other than that until I saw this trailer...

...which was released 10 days ago. And it just now popped up in my feed.

That's abysmal. Mostly because it just shows victims in traps, which is what I hated thats what the Saw series has become, just seeing people being tortured, screaming, and dying horribly.

I consider Saw 1 & Saw 2 to be two of the best horror movies of the last 20 years, and rejected the criticism they were 'torture porn' because they had great plots and twists. They were actually quite light on gore, but filmed and edited in a way your mind fills in the blanks, like all great horror.

Unfortunately, the later sequels embraced the 'torture porn' label and became lazier and lazier as they became gorier and gorier.

I could discuss each in detail, but that's for another topic that I'd participate in if only there'd be multiple posters interested in participating.

Anyway, there's three things that is interesting about this new movie -

*Its set between Saw 1 & Saw 2, my two favorites.

*They're bringing back many of the original cast - Tobin Bell, Shawnie Smith, etc.

*Its directed by the director of Saw6, who's widely considered to be the best director of the franchise besides James Wan. (He also directed Saw7/3D, but it was horrible because of the 3D effects).

The premise, according to Wikipedia -
"Set between the events of Saw and Saw II, a sick and desperate John Kramer travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer — only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. Armed with a newfound purpose, the infamous serial killer returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through devious, deranged and ingenious traps.

So am I going to be seeing it?
Absolutely not.
I skipped out on the 8th movie, and glad I did. I later saw a pirated copy and it basically was a copy & paste of the prior movies.
I actually paid to see the 9th movie because it showed promise with Samuel L Jackson & Chris Rock. It sucked.

And now this new movie threatens to shit on my fond memories and opinion of the first two movies.
I'm not falling for it.

I could go more into detail but this post is long enough already.
