Movies Movie News and Notes

It was aiite. I prolly liked it more than most fast and furious movies lol
It took me ages to think about watching those movies but if you take them for what they are, they're good fun. Crank, Transporter...way OTT, but great fun.

If you haven't seen Hobbs and Shaw, get on that. It's really entertaining.

If you haven't seen it, I would recommend SPY (2015). Underrated action comedy film. Jason Statham is hilarious in here.

Fleabag Star Phoebe Waller-Bridge Lands Female Lead in James Mangold's INDIANA JONES 5

The next installment of Indiana Jones has found its female lead. Emmy-winning Fleabag sensation Phoebe Waller-Bridge has been cast to star opposite Harrison Ford in the long-awaited fifth film in the franchise, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Indiana Jones 5 (as it's temporarily known) has the 78-year-old Ford reprising his role as the globetrotting archeologist. James Mangold (Ford v Ferrari) is taking over directing duties from Steven Spielberg, who helmed the first four films in the franchise.

In addition, legendary Oscar-winning composer John Williams has signed on to score the film. Williams has scored every previous Indiana Jones titles going back to 1981's Raiders of the Lost Ark.

“I'm thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers," Mangold said in a statement. "Steven, Harrison, Kathy, Frank, and John are all artistic heroes of mine. When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can't help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself.”

Waller-Bridge previously teamed with Lucasfilm by voicing the breakout droid character L3-37 in 2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story. The British writer-producer-actress created the acclaimed Amazon Studios dramedy Fleabag and was the showrunner of the first season of BBC America's Killing Eve. She also contributed to the script of the upcoming James Bond film No Time to Die.

The fifth Indiana Jones film has a long and torturous development process going back to 2008 when, coming off the release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, reports first surfaced that writer George Lucas and director Spielberg were aiming for a fifth entry. In 2016, Disney announced the film would be released in 2019 with Spielberg returning as director — but without Lucas being actively involved. David Koepp was originally attached as the film's writer; then Jonathan Kasdan reportedly took over; then Dan Fogelman; and then Koepp reportedly became involved once again (and noted in a 2019 interview with Den of Geek, "I think we've got a good idea this time"). In February 2020, it was reported that Spielberg was stepping down from directing the project, but would remain a hands-on producer, with Mangold taking over behind the camera.

In addition to Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel will serve as producers on the film. Indiana Jones 5 will hit theaters July 29, 2022.

Legendary's Live-Action GUNDAM Movie in the Works at Netflix with Jordan Vogt-Roberts to Direct

Netflix has landed Legendary's planned live-action Gundam, now with Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts and Brian K. Vaughan attached. Vogt-Roberts will produce and direct from a script by Vaughan, who will also executive produce.

The original Gundam series, which began in 1979, is set in the Universal Century, an era in which people have emigrated to space colonies because of a growing population on Earth. Eventually, the people living in the colonies seek their autonomy and launch a war of independence against the people on Earth. Battles are fought by piloting robots known as mobile suits.

The massively popular series has led to multibillion-dollar sales in merchandise and licensing, including animated films, video games, plastic models, toys, and books. (Gundam had a cameo in Steven Spielberg's pop-culture-obsessed Ready Player One.)

Vogt-Roberts' last feature was the 2017 monster movie. The filmmaker is also attached to direct an adaption of the video game Metal Gear Solid.

Vaughan, the famed comic book writer turned screenwriter, is currently executive producing the series adaption of his comic series Y: The Last Man.

Attack the Block's Joe Cornish to Direct Live-Action Adaptation of Mark Millar's STARLIGHT

Joe Cornish is set to direct 20th Century Studios' adaptation of the Mark Millar comic Starlight, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Cornish, best known for directing Attack the Block, will also pen the script for the movie take on the comic by the creator of Wanted, the Kingsman films and Kick-Ass. Simon Kinberg of X-Men: Days of Future Past and Audrey Chon of Genre Films will produce the comic book adaptation, with Nira Park also producing.

The Starlight comic, drawn by Goran Parlov, is described by Millar as Flash Gordon meets The Dark Knight Returns. It centers on a space hero who saved the universe 35 years ago but came back to Earth, where no one believed his fantastic stories. He settled down, got married, had kids and got old, but then is called back for one last adventure when his old rocket shows up.

Cornish also directed The Kid Who Would Be King, his contemporary take on the Arthurian legend, and had co-writing credits on the Steven Spielberg-directed The Adventures of Tintin and Ant-Man, both done with another longtime friend, Edgar Wright.
