Chadwick Boseman, Star of Black Panther, Passes Away at 43 Due to Colon Cancer

chz78J8.jpg

Chadwick Boseman, star of Black Panther, died on Friday after a four year battle with colon cancer, his rep confirmed to Variety. He was 43. Before he was cast as the Marvel Studios superhero, Boseman’s career first exploded with his portrayals of Black American icons Jackie Robinson (in 2013’s 42) and James Brown (in 2014’s Get on Up).

“It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman,” said a statement posted to his Twitter feed. “It was the honor of his life to bring King T’Challa to life in ‘Black Panther.'”

“Chadwick’s passing is absolutely devastating,” said Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios and chief creative officer of Marvel, in a statement. “He was our T’Challa, our Black Panther, and our dear friend. Each time he stepped on set, he radiated charisma and joy, and each time he appeared on screen, he created something truly indelible. He embodied a lot of amazing people in his work, and nobody was better at bringing great men to life. He was as smart and kind and powerful and strong as any person he portrayed. Now he takes his place alongside them as an icon for the ages. The Marvel Studios family deeply mourns his loss, and we are grieving tonight with his family.”

Although Boseman never spoke publicly about his diagnosis, according to the statement, he worked through his treatment for much of his career, starting when he played another Black American icon, NAACP lawyer and future Supreme Court justice Thurgood Marshall, in 2017’s Marshall — a year before the premiere of Black Panther. Boseman most recently appeared in Spike Lee’s Vietnam War drama Da 5 Bloods, and this year he’s due to appear opposite Viola Davis in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, a feature adaptation of the August Wilson play, directed by George C. Wolfe.

Poignantly, Boseman’s death is on the same day as Jackie Robinson Day, MLB’s annual celebration of the pioneering player.

The Batman has pressed pause on its London production after star Robert Pattinson tested positive for COVID-19, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. Warner Bros. would not comment specifically on the individual who tested positive on set.

"A member of The Batman production has tested positive for Covid-19, and is isolating in accordance with established protocols," a Warner Bros. spokesperson said in a statement Thursday. "Filming is temporarily paused."

Vanity Fair first reported the news of Pattinson testing positive for COVID-19.

Filming on The Batman has resumed this week after it shut down in mid-March amid the coronavirus pandemic, which closed productions worldwide. The first trailer debuted last month at DC FanDome to strong reactions.

Matt Reeves is directing The Batman, which stars Pattinson as The Dark Knight, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, John Turturro as crime boss Carmine Falcone, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred and Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham City DA Gil Colson.

Lovecraft Country Star Jonathan Majors Cast as Kang the Conqueror in ANT-MAN 3

The cast of Ant-Man 3 is getting bigger. Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors is joining the next installment of the Marvel Studios franchise, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Sources say Majors will play the classic villain Kang the Conqueror. A time-traveling despot from the far-future, Kang the Conqueror debuted as a villain in Marvel’s The Avengers No. 8 in 1964. He’s intricately connected to the larger mythology of Marvel’s superhero universe, with ties to villains from Doctor Doom to Rama-Tut and even Thanos, courtesy of a feud with Nebula in 1990s comic continuity, and has faced off with everyone from the Fantastic Four through Spider-Man at one time or another.

Majors, who plays Atticus "Tic" Freeman in HBO's Lovecraft Country and was onscreen in Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods earlier this year, joins leading man Paul Rudd in the film. Peyton Reed is back in the director's chair after helming the previous two installments — 2015's Ant-Man and 2018's Ant-Man and the Wasp. Rick & Morty writer Jeff Loveness is penning the script.

Marvel, which declined to comment, has not yet set a release date for Ant-Man 3.

"The third Ant-Man movie is going to be a much bigger, more sprawling movie than the first two," Reed said earlier this month of the film. "It's going to have a very different visual template."

Tom Hardy Reportedly Set to Replace Daniel Craig as the Next James Bond

Tom Hardy could be set to replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond, according to new reports. The actor, 43, has been one of the bookies favourites to become the next 007 in recent years, and rumours have been circulating he will step into Craig's shoes after his fifth and final film, No Time To Die.

The Vulcan Reporter reports they heard in June that Hardy had been offered the iconic part after a successful audition, while bookies odds on the star have now been slashed in half.

The publication reports producers had planned to unveil Tom as the 10th James Bond in November- the same month No Time To Die was due to be released.

However, due to the coronavirus pandemic the Vulcan Reporter state the announcement will now be made later this year or early 2021.

Meanwhile, the bookies have slashed odds on The Peaky Blinders star from 8/1 to just 4/5 in the past 24 hours after a flurry of bets. Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "A flurry of bets over the past 24 hours suggests the cat is out the bag and it's Tom Hardy that'll soon be replacing Daniel Craig as 007."

The Taboo star has made no secret about wanting to be the next 007 - but has previously refused to talk about the part in fear it will get him blacklisted. Speaking to the Daily Beast, the heart-throb admitted: "If I mention it, it's gone. You know, there's a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting, and in the fellowship of my peer group, that if you talk about it you're automatically out of the race. So I can't possibly comment on that one!"

He is actually a very good choice. I will probably start watching Bond films again.

Hardy is 43. Do they really want to recast a guy that's going to be 45 years old by the time cameras start rolling on the very first movie?
