Movies Movie News and Notes

Ya I cant see tenet not coming out in theatres, in fact that's the only way I want to watch it.

The Green Knight is my most anticipated movie this year and there's zero clarity when we'll be able to watch it and in what form. I'd watch that one on Netflix shit but I really want to see it.

I think Tenet release is frustrating for Nolan because I bet the goal is to keep the under wraps elements of it under wraps and the longer you wait, the more difficult it is to prevent leaks.

That said, you’re right- there will be no vod conpromise at all. They will shelf it until theaters can open again.

Russo Brothers to Direct Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling in Action Thriller THE GRAY MAN

Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo are getting back into the world of big-budget filmmaking. The duo will direct Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling in the Netflix action thriller The Gray Man.

Joe Russo penned the script, with Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely performing a polish.

The film is based on the 2009 novel by Mark Greaney that centers on Court Gentry, a former CIA operative known as the Gray Man. The film adaptation follows Gentry (Gosling), who is hunted across the globe by former CIA colleague Lloyd Hansen (Evans).

The Russo Bros. will produce via their AGBO banner, along with Mike Larocca. Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum are producing via Roth Kirschenbaum. It could potentially see a January 2021 start date.

Evans, who starred as Captain America in four of the Russo Bros.' previous films, is the latest Marvel Studios actor to reteam with them. The Russos and Netflix are coming off the success of Extraction, which has become the streaming platform's most watched original film. The duo are in development on a sequel to the Chris Hemsworth project, which Joe wrote and the duo produced. They are also in postproduction on the Tom Holland crime drama Cherry.

Noah Centineo to Play Atom Smasher in Dwayne Johnson's BLACK ADAM Movie

2mX64GU.jpg

Noah Centineo, who broke out with To All The Boys I've Loved Before, is joining Dwayne Johnson in Black Adam, New Line's Shazam! spinoff based on the popular DC antihero.

Jaume Collet-Serra, who directed Johnson in Disney's forthcoming Jungle Cruise, will be in the director's chair when the feature project goes before cameras, although with the pandemic the timing is unclear.

While storyline details are being kept in the dark, Black Adam focuses on the DC character that was originally created as the archnemesis for the hero now known as Shazam. In modern times, however, the character has evolved into a more complex and conflicted antihero, rising to become one of DC's more prominent characters. His origins are tied to the fictional Middle Eastern kingdom of Kahndaq and his powers are supernatural in nature. Adam Sztykiel wrote the current script for what will be Johnson's first superhero role.

Centineo will play Atom Smasher, a character who can control his molecular structure and is able to manipulate his size and strength. The character has appeared onscreen before, in an episode of The CW’s The Flash.

Black Adam is the second New Line-DC collaboration following 2019's critical and commercial hit, Shazam! The project is also expected to be a centerpiece at the inaugural DC FanDome, Warner Bros.' own Comic-Con-style experience that will celebrate all things DC across the many platforms with panels, behind-the-scenes and, of course, reveals.

Centineo made hearts throb with To All the Boys I've Loved Before, a smash hit for Netflix that made him a major player on the social media stage and opened doors in Hollywood for the actor. He has since starred in a sequel, To All the Boys: PS. I Still Love You, which debuted earlier this year, and has a third installment in post.

The actor, who also starred in Sierra Burgess Is a Loser and is a founder of Favored Nations, a nonprofit social action organization, is also leading World War II drama The Diary, directed by Jackie Chan.

This list is from 2008.

Today I think he's put DUNKIRK somewhere near the top, and SOCIAL NETWORK, too.

Crikey Moses, Jojo Rabbit was incredible. Absolutely brilliant. I heard it was good obviously but tears and proper side splitting laughter.

Stunt work is quite dangerous. Good she survived but that's the gig I reckon.

That's not a career ender for a stunt person, necessarily.

Nia DaCosta is already helping revive a '90s property with her take on MGM and Universal's upcoming Candyman. Now the filmmaker is taking on the sequel to Marvel Studios' '90s-set movie Captain Marvel, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Megan McDonnell, a writer on the upcoming Disney+ Marvel series WandaVision, is penning the script for the sequel, which will once again star Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, fighter pilot turned superhero.

Captain Marvel 2 has a July 8, 2022 release date.

The first Captain Marvel opened in March 2019 and went on to earn $1.1 billion globally and helped lead into Avengers: Endgame. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directed. The cast also included Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn, Annette Bening, Gemma Chan and Lashana Lynch, whose onscreen daughter Monica Rambeau will appear in WandaVision (this time as an adult and played by Candyman actor Teyonah Parris).

DaCosta broke out with her debut feature Little Woods, which starred Tessa Thompson and premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2018. Her Candyman film, which she co-wrote with Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld, was initially supposed to debut June 12, but has been delayed by COVID-19 to Oct. 16. It has still managed to stir cultural conversation, thanks to a socially relevant teaser that earned praise when it was released in June.

JOHN WICK 5 in the Works, Lionsgate to Shoot Two Installments Back-to-Back

FcTdQDk.jpg

The John Wick universe continues to expand. On Thursday, Lionsgate unveiled plans for its Keanu Reeves-starring franchise by confirming that a John Wick 5 is in the works.

Studio CEO Jon Feltheimer also announced during an analyst call that the fourth and fifth installments would shoot back-to-back.

"We’re also busy preparing scripts for the next two installments of our John Wick action franchise, with John Wick 4 slated to hit theaters Memorial Day weekend 2022. We hope to shoot both John Wick 4 and 5back-to-back when Keanu becomes available early next year," Feltheimer announced.

The John Wick action franchise, which stars Keanu Reeves and is distributed by Lionsgate, has been a critical and box office smash, with the three movies generating over $579 million worldwide.

John Wick 4 was rescheduled for a Memorial Day weekend release on May 27, 2022, pushed back a year from a May 21, 2021 bow, following the theatrical and production shutdown due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. It is unclear when the John Wick films would begin their back-to-back production. Reeves is currently shooting Matrix 4 in Berlin, after production on the Warner Bros franchise film had to be halted due to COVID-19.
