NIGHTWING Director Chris McKay in Talks to Direct DUNGEONS & DRAGONS

Chris McKay, who recently directed “The Lego Batman Movie” pic for Warner Bros., is in negotiations to direct “Dungeons & Dragons” for Paramount Pictures.

Michael Gillio will be penning the script. Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis are producing. The pic will be one of the first projects to go into production for the newly created AllSpark Pictures. Launched last October, production company aims to transform itself into an industry player to rival Marvel Studios.

Hasbro’s lines of toys and games include Mr. Potato Head, Monopoly and My Little Pony. Its products have inspired films with varying degrees of success. Paramount and Hasbro could not be reached for comment.

The film has been in development for some time but the lawsuit between Sweetpea Entertainment and Hasbro about ownership of sequel rights delayed progress. Once the settlement was finalized in 2015, Hasbro moved the project from Warner Bros. to Paramount and eventually to AllSpark after announcing the new studio.

McKay has been high on various studios’ lists since helming “The Lego Batman Movie” movie last year; he went on to land the coveted directing job for the Warner Bros. and DC movie “Nightwing.” McKay is also an exec producer on the “The Lego Sequel” which is currently filming.

Man, when you hear Pooh's voice...right in the nostalgia feels.

Jim Cummings is the only original voice it seems, Chris O'Donnell is Tigger, Brad Garrett is Eeyore. I really like how they're using the stuffed doll Pooh and now the cartoon/drawing version. Tigger will need a lot of work though -

Mackenzie Davis to Star Alongside Linda Hamilton in New TERMINATOR Movie

2jAjIiI.jpg

Mackenzie Davis is in negotiations to join Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the latest Terminator movie.

Tim Miller is directing the reboot, which, for the first time since 1991's Terminator: Judgment Day, has James Cameron involved.Skydance, the company behind 2015's Terminator Genisys and Annihilation, is producing the new movie. The untitled Terminator reboot is set for July 26, 2019.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it is understood that Davis is up to play a soldier-assassin on a mission. It is a human character in a movie that once again sets up the battle between (wo)man and machine.

While Davis has a key role in the movie, she may not be the reboot's true star. The producers have been undergoing an intense and so far fruitless search to find a Latina for the story's main role, according to sources. That is a role that would span all three movies of the intended trilogy. It is unclear how many movies Davis' deal calls for.

Davis recently appeared in Blade Runner 2049 and was one of the stars of AMC's Halt and Catch Fire.

SOPRANOS Prequel, THE MANY SAINTS OF NEWARK in the Works from David Chase

M1thx6i.jpg

David Chase is finally ready to return to the New Jersey turf of his iconic creation The Sopranos. New Line has purchased the screenplay The Many Saints of Newark, the working title for a feature prequel of The Sopranos that is set in the era of the Newark riots in the 60s. That was a time when the African-Americans and the Italians of Newark were at each other’s throats, and amongst the gangsters of each group, those conflicts became especially lethal.

The script was written by Chase and Lawrence Konner, the prolific screen and television writer whose credits include The Sopranos.

Chase finally returning to expand The Sopranos lore will be welcome news to the legions who still feel that his HBO series is the greatest of all time. The groundbreaking show ran for six seasons from 1999 – 2007. It put HBO on the map, established the market for DVD sales of popular series, and won 21 Primetime Emmy Awards, five Golden Globe Awards, and Peabody Awards for its first two seasons. It launched the stars of a slew of actors and revived others, most notably the late James Gandolfini, Edie Falco, Steven Van Zandt, Lorraine Bracco, Michael Imperioli, Dominic Chianese, Steve Schirripa and on and on.

Some of the beloved characters from the series will appear in the film. I couldn’t get any more information about the plot, but the time period indicates there will be room for Tony Soprano’s father, Giovanni “Johnny Boy,” the former captain of the Soprano crew (played in flashbacks by Joseph Siravo), and a younger version of his wife Livia (played indelibly in the show’s first season by Nancy Marchand), and Tony’s uncle Junior, played by Chianese.

Chase will serve as producer as well as co-writer, and he will be involved in selecting a director. Chase’s last feature was the 2010 critically acclaimed Paramount film Not Fade Away. Chase Films’s Nicole Lambert will be executive producer.

It's Official: Vin Diesel to Star in Valiant's BLOODSHOT Directed by Dave Wilson

4lYwZcU.jpg

Sony Pictures has closed a deal with Vin Diesel to star in the studio’s sci-fi/action movie Bloodshot, an adaptation of the Valiant comic book series. Dave Wilson, the longtime collaborator of Deadpool and the upcoming Terminator reboot helmer Tim Miller and creative director at their Blur Studios, is aboard make his feature directing debut with the script from Arrival Oscar-winning scribe Eric Heisserer.

Deadline reports that the pic will be in the tone of the classic 1980s tentpoles like Robocop, Terminator and Total Recall. Sony is being aggressive with this one, a franchise play, and principal photography starts in July.

The deal reunites Diesel with his Fast and the Furious producer Neal H. Moritz, who is producing alongside Toby Jaffe and Dinesh Shamdasani. Matthew Vaughn and Dan Mintz are executive producers. Andrea Giannetti will oversee for Sony.

Bloodshot is a central character in the Valiant Expanded Universe, composed of thousands of characters embodying various genres, tones and demographic groups — ordinary people in extraordinary situations rather than gods and demi-gods.

The Bloodshot series, comprised of more 110 issues with more than 7.5 million copies sold, centers on Ray Garrison, aka Bloodshot. Brought back from the dead by Rising Spirit Technologies through the use of nanotechnology and suffering total memory loss, Ray struggles to reconnect with who he was while learning what sort of weapon he has become, with the help of a group of other augmented combatants (called Chainsaw).

Diesel goes hand in hand with action franchises from Fast and Furious and xXx to Riddick and Guardians of the Galaxy

Rob Liefeld's EXTREME UNIVERSE Lands Netflix Deal for a Series of Movies

hzbK5pE.jpg

Netflix is about to get Extreme. The streaming giant has signed a deal with Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld for his Extreme Universecharacters, with the intent being a Marvel-style series of movies existing in a shared universe, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The deal follows a similar attempt to bring the Extreme characters to the screen last year, with Akiva Goldsman and producer Graham King. Although King is not involved with this new venture, Goldsman is expected to oversee the writers’ room for Netflix’s output and act as producer on the movies alongside Liefeld and Brooklyn Weaver of Energy Entertainment. Weed Road’s Greg Lessans will act as executive producer.

Liefeld’s Extreme Universe characters debuted in the early 1990s when the creator left Marvel after his fan-favorite New Mutants and X-Force runs, where the central characters of Fox’s Deadpool movies — including the second film’s Cable and Domino — debuted. Concepts and characters in the Extreme package include superhero teams Brigade and Bloodstrike, as well as solo characters such as Lethal, Cybrid and Kaboom.

This is the second comic book universe acquisition for Netflix. News of the deal follows Netflix’s acquisition of Mark Millar’s Millarworld company last August, which gave it control over properties from the former Marvel and DC creator including Wanted, Starlight and Nemesis. As part of that deal, Millar continues to create new properties for simultaneous on-screen and comic development.

But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings. In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Ava DuVernay to Direct DC Comics' THE NEW GODS for Warner Bros.

K0i4FzJ.jpg

After making history as the first woman of color to helm a $100 million-plus live-action film in A Wrinkle In Time, Ava DuVernay will continue to play in the event film sandbox. She’s closing a deal with Warner Bros and DC to direct a big-budget screen adaptation of The New Gods, the creation of revered comic book impresario Jack Kirby. The studio will quickly set a screenwriter who’ll craft the narrative and work closely with DuVernay.

This will be another $100M-plus film for DuVernay, who has taken quite a leap in scale since her breakout film Selma. She unveiled a New Gods connection late last year when she responded to a question on social media on who her favorite superhero is. “Big Barda. Many reasons” was her reply. Big Barda is one of the New Gods and the wife of Mister Miracle, also a Kirby creation.

This is a bold move for Warner Bros/DC and not just because this is the second superhero franchise they’ve handed to a female director after Patty Jenkins turned Wonder Woman into a crowd-pleasing blockbuster and is working on the sequel with Gal Gadot. Unlike recent DC fare, this is a freestanding world created and designed by Kirby back in 1971, not long after the prolific comic legend had exited Marvel.

There is no connection to the other DC worlds being exploited for film right now by Warner Bros, where studio boss Toby Emmerich and his newly installed DC production president Walter Hamada are moving forward with new approach to filmmakers on their DC-based fare.

The New Gods was the Genesis of the uber-villain Darkseid. Also called “Fourth World,” the Kirby creation debuted in a trilogy of related comics written and drawn by Kirby that were published in the very early 1970s: New Gods, Forever People and Mister Miracle. The New Gods came into existence after the world of the gods of classic mythology were destroyed during Ragnarok. The deities inhabit two planets: one is New Genesis, a lush paradise, and the other Apokolips, which sounds like Dante’s version of hell. War ensues.

Ridley Scott to Direct Spy Thriller QUEEN & COUNTRY for Fox

Ridley Scott is ready to get himself into the world of espionage. The filmmaker is in talks to direct 20th Century Fox's graphic novel adaptation Queen & Country, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Scott would come on to produce with Chernin Entertainment if the deal closes.

The comic book series from Greg Rucka centers on a British Secret Intelligence Service operative named Tara Chace, one of a group of three field operatives dedicated to preserving British intelligence internationally whose identity is compromised following an assassination. Illustrated by artists including Chris Samnee, Carla Speed McNeil and Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O'Malley, the series ran for 32 issues from 2001-07 at Oni Press and won an Eisner Award for best new series in 2002.

Ellen Page was at one time set to star in the film, back when it had a script from screenwriter Ryan Condal, whose draft followed scripts written by John Rogers and Rucka. The current status of the script is unknown.

Scott is coming off of releasing two directorial efforts in the last year, including Alien: Covenant for Fox and All the Money in the World for Sony.

Andrea Riseborough and Demian Bichir to Star in THE GRUDGE Reboot

Demian Bichir joins Andrea Riseborough in Sony’s new take on the horror classic “The Grudge.” Nicolas Pesce is on board to direct from his own script.

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions recently picked up worldwide rights to the film. SPWA, Ghost House, and Good Universe last collaborated on the hit thriller “Don’t Breathe.”

Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert will produce for Ghost House, with Nathan Kahane and Erin Westerman executive producing for Good Universe alongside Schuyler Weiss, Roy Lee, and Doug Davison. Romel Adam will oversee the movie for Ghost House and Brady Fujikawa for Good Universe. The pic will begin shooting in May.

“We are so excited about this new adaptation,” Raimi said. “We went back to the original source material to deliver a relentless supernatural thrill ride that explores the horrors of American suburbia.”

The first film hit theaters in 2004 — a time when Hollywood was remaking numerous Japanese horror films, including “The Ring.” The original adaptation starred Sarah Michelle Gellar and went on to gross $187.3 million worldwide on a $10 million budget.

Riseborough most recently starred in “Battle of the Sexes” and will next be seen in the upcoming Amazon series “Zero Zero Zero.” In addition to his film credits, Bichir will be starring in ABC’s “The Grand Hotel,” which he will produce alongside co-star Eva Longoria.
