Most overrated boxer ever.

Who based on you personal observation, would your pick?
Overrated is relative to the community though, that's why that has to be known. On some media platforms Floyd Mayweather is very overrated, on this subforum in Sherdog I think he is relatively properly rated.

Just as an example since everyone probably knows what I mean if I mentioned Floyd.

Well said. Ok, well for me if I had to say someone overrated based on my own personal judgement based on his lofty status. I'd say Floyd.

Saying that he's a master boxer. Just wish he did things differently in his career. The choices he made in who he fought at their careers.

Probably is actually Muhammad Ali, tbh, even though he’s obviously top echelon of the ATGs.

That's a good choice. He is regarded as the greatest by most.

I know you are a poker guy. Would you call Phil Ivey the most overrated poker player?

Hagler is pretty overrated. Ali, obviously. Frazier as well. All those 70s HWs, really. Toney rates himself the greatest ever but his record is very poor. And Tyson.

Similar to Ali, in that he’s elite, but not as elite as some make him out to be.

Honestly with poker, actual poker skills aren’t all that matters…..the boring stuff like bank roll management and game selection are just as important.

One man's GOAT is another man's most overrated Boxer. Just like a p4p list, it's kinda pointless to discuss because everyone values different things in a fight and a fighter.

Yes that's true, but for conversation nothing wrong to express your opinion on the matter. It's not rocket science.

I'll admit a p4p list can be fun to put together, weighing skill sets and resumes against each other. I don't see how trying to diminish the skills of highly rated Boxers is productive though. The very premise of the question breeds unneeded negativity

That's your opinion, I disagree. We are in forum site to discuss topics. I don't necessarily think it's negative to talk about someone you think is overrated. It's like a movie or band or artist you think is overrated. Same concept, nothing wrong with it imo.

Roy Jones. He was amazing, but outside Toney what did he really do but beat weak links in all the divisions he played with, we really give his legacy wings on a whole lot of eye test. Good thing he had his signature moment destroying Lights Out, and some decent wins along the way too, but not what could have been or even close.

He beat Hopkins & Tarver. Who else should he have fought? Prime RJJ is in no way overrated. He was spectacular. Definitely in the top 5 of all time.

wow two guys who beat the shit out of him in rematches, and McCallum he got when McCallum was old. He never beat Eubank or Benn or Collins or Sumbu or GMan or anyone but Toney, he’s not in the top 5 ever, that’s beyond fucking ridiculous, he proved his class one time, he can be rated at individual weights, but he really never proved it there either, you gotta hold it down and fend off all comers to be top five in all of boxing. Fighter of the Decade where he fought one guy is ridiculous. Beating Ruiz meant nothing, tailor made fight. This guy, one of my favorites, is way overrated, and it’s okay to admit that. Cheers.

This is my answer as well. I don't want to be seen as shitting on his legacy, but he was not the "greatest". It's appropriate to say he was exceptional though.

He was washed up when he fought Tarver and Hopkins the second time. Prime RJJ is absolutely in the top 5 greatest of all time.

As far as Eubank, who did he ever beat? You'll say Benn, but who did he ever beat? An untested McClellan? Who'd he beat? A washed up Julian Jackson?

We can both do this.
