I understand the preemptive attempt to discredit reality here but.. guys like Michael Cain, Bale and so on were raving about Heath during filming in separate interviews. I took it seriously at the time because they weren’t raving about one another.. they were all talking about Heath. And a lot of that was prior to his death.


Heath also helped re-invent the character and was involved in many of the aspects from make-up to the outfit the Joker wore. It was a master class of acting on his end. He transformed both himself and a well known and beloved character.

I can confirm his assessment. That movie was hyped beyond belief as the next great crime thriller, with incredible performances and a screenplay so smart and tight, it would make Martin Scorsese blush.

It was just a boring husk of a Scorsese clone of a movie, with actors in bad wigs. One of the more disappointing movies I've ever seen.

Probably most similar to the(IMHO far better) Matchstick Men.

Wait co-stars were praising him whilst promoting the film? Wow unusual. That definitely equates to the vague "People were raving about it before he died."

If you enjoy hamburgers over steak mignon my friend, more power to you.

Ledger put in a very good performance, no doubt. Perhaps up there with the best in comic book film / popcorn movie history.

If you want to say it's an all time great performance in the history of cinema.......<45><45><45>.

It was just on tnt the other day and I was watching it. Had been probably about three years since I’d last seen it. Ledger was phenomenal.

And that interrogation room scene- probably the best scene in the film- a great turning point where it goes from Joker seemingly intent on exposing/killing Batman to revealing his intent to showcase how easily people can be corrupted when under duress.

Some of Ledger’s moments in that scene are just so damn good.

I cringe when he speaks in Heat. Or that hand holding at the end with no emotionality

Not saying he wasn't good, Denzel is the man. But folks acted like that was his best performance ever (probably because he got the Oscar) I think Malcolm X was his better performance he was performing like he channeled Malcolm or something (some say he did).

A lot of his acting afterwards was a caricature of Alonzo.

Now his relatively weak performance in the Patriot (as well as the better one by Mel), on the other hand, is completely outshadowed by the Masterclass put on by Jason Isaacs as Col Tavington

Leonardo DiCaprio in the Revenant is IMO an overrated performance.

But Leo is a great actor, I feel out of all his Oscar nominated performances, the Revenant was one of the weaker ones but he won the Oscar for it.

People are tough to please. Heaths Joker was incredible. The issue was the film. It took all the fun and turned it into a brutal, ultra violent crime drama. To me a superhero movie should bring out the joy of when we were kids reading comics or watching the campy Batman TV show. Heath needed a counter balance, but Bale was almost as dark so it was a solemn movie.

He was the most believable character in that movie IMO, Will was pretty good in that movie though I'll agree
