Most overrated acting performance of all time

"Why because black white people were in it?" ;)

Yes.

Seriously though, at the time, people were trying to compare it Goodfellas and Casino. The story was not interesting and it felt like they learned their lines on the day. There wasn't a single character that had any charm.

I don't think I've seen it. Doesn't ring a bell

Denzel Training Day.

Wait!!! Lemme land.

Not saying he wasn't good, Denzel is the man. But folks acted like that was his best performance ever (probably because he got the Oscar) I think Malcolm X was his better performance he was performing like he channeled Malcolm or something (some say he did).

A lot of his acting afterwards was a caricature of Alonzo.

<{monica}>

It was just them correcting their mistake of not giving him the Oscar for The Hurricane. They gave it to Russell Crowe for Gladiator that year instead. Russell probably should have won it for a beautiful mind instead. they done goofed, IMO.

Kevin Spacey in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is laughably bad but chimps chimped out for it.

Spend some time in a small town in Italy.

All the old people get that raspy voice, it sounds like they're trying to hack up a fur ball as they talk.
Lot of them smoked like 4 packs of unfiltereds a day so....

I can confirm his assessment. That movie was hyped beyond belief as the next great crime thriller, with incredible performances and a screenplay so smart and tight, it would make Martin Scorsese blush.

It was just a boring husk of a Scorsese clone of a movie, with actors in bad wigs. One of the more disappointing movies I've ever seen.

Word, I lived in Copparo and worked in Berra for a while.

Brando and Ledger getting critiqued here is bumming me out. Those performances are terrific in my opinion. Brando is iconic in The Godfather. Just because it inspired a lot of parodies and what not doesn’t mean it was a subpar performance, just that it so permeated the popular consciousness that it was being imitated and referenced for decades afterwards.

Hanks as Gump I could maybe see in that it’s probably the performance for which he is most praised and yet I think he’s been better in other films. That said, still a strong, memorable performance.

I don’t even really like the term overrated. I feel it’s critical in a way that I don’t like to be- other people praise this and I don’t think it’s worthy of their praise.

Underrated is a concept I like much more more.

I'll go ahead and nominate phoenix in the new joker film.

Simply because i know people will say hes overrated.

People were raving about it before he died. And that performance was legit.

He died 6 months before the film was released and before it had even been edited.....

Inb4 "yeah but insiders who had seen him on set said he was fantastic".

People saying Heath Ledger's Joker, while probably loving Robert Downey Jr's Ironman, is definitely bothersome.

I gotta go with Travolta in Pulp Fiction. Probably the worst actor in the movie.

Then there's Jamie Foxx getting an Oscar for doing one of his 3 good impressions for 2 hours. But I guess that's another topic.

I remember when people were outraged when Stallone didn't win an Oscar for playing Rocky a few years back........<45><45><45>

Perfect example of how awards and the media can manipulate the public consciousness.

for me, jack nicholson as joker, or in fact anything hes in.

Lady Gaga in AHS Hotel season. She was okay but an Emmy for it? I dont think so.
