Most overrated acting performance of all time

The whole of the Shawshank Redemption....

"Ayyyyynnndieeee Duuufraaayyynnee"

Like honestly I don't get why people cream their jeans over it? Acting was okay but nothing amazing, story was average. To me it's a mildly entertaining movie. But I much prefer the Green Mile over it and it's not exactly a perfect movie either. I'm in the minority that hates The Shawshank Redemption but I'm not one to judge people on what they enjoy, I just hate it when people tell me my taste must be shit or I don't know movies because I don't like it.

Millie Bobby Brown in anything she's in not sure why everyone thinks this girl is an amazing actress also when you read about her story and her family its fucking weird man

what's the story about her family?

what's the story about her family?

They basically gave up everything to make her a star and now she is the sole breadwinner in the family. She employs her parents to manage her social media accounts. She also does weird shit like this:

There's just a weird vibe around her look into it

So it goes from a mildly entertaining film, to a film you hate in the space of one sentence?

So this thread proves one thing. The world is split into two kinds of people. Those that think Ledger's Joker was good and those that get offended if you don't concede it was the greatest performance in the history of cinema.

I hate it because people beat their dicks about it so badly, when it was just a mildly entertaining film. Not a must see masterpiece people make it out to be.

I thought his performance was over the top but at the same time I think it was supposed to be. I didn't like his joker and I didn't really think his performance was that spectacular.

You sound like a lot of fun.

Some embarrassing opinions and nonsense spouted in this thread. Being contrarians just to seem like special snowflakes. Iconic performances tend to usually get the "I always thought that was overrated"" bs. Theyre iconic for a reason.

Did you watch any of Heath Ledger's competitors in 2008, when he won best SUPPORTING actor? I bet you didn't watch a single one of them. At most, Tropic Thunder. I doubt very much you watched Doubt or Milk.

Heath Ledger was nominated and won the best SUPPORTING actor Oscars in 2009 because he died. Ledger's Joker is the definition of overrated.

I cringe when he speaks in Heat. Or that hand holding at the end with no emotionality
I thought he handled that hand holding well. The guy just murdered his best friend a few hours earlier, so it's better that he wasn't crying or anything. I always took his expression as him acknowledging that his favorite thing in the whole world is done. He has nothing on his plate now that he has hunted down his target, and it kinda sucks. It's gotta be like going through a depression after winning the world title.

The dialogue throughout the movie, though?

<6>

You're a great actor, you should have did more roles.

Whenever Keanu Reeves "acts" upset, it seems like overacting. And because he can't act that well to begin with, it makes me laugh every time.

Let me also say that Keanu Reeves seems like a stand up guy and I'll watch pretty much anything he's in because I do believe he's one of the few really good guys in Hollywood.

Everyone knows Nolan had his way with the MPAA. His own crew said the pencil scene alone should have earned the movie an R. Joker lliterally stabs a guy in the head and murders him with a pencil. He burns Lau. So a 13 year old that watches Avengers and X Men type of strife and violence and goes sees this? You don’t see a difference? The ferry scene, the hospital, the interrogations, ....these are brutal intense scenes. This movie should have been an R all the way. Deadpool violence was done in a comic book way...these were not.

BUT...the violence in TDK is tastefully done. As is the dialogue. There's really nothing that would earn it an R-rating. Deadpool on the other hand had gory violence, crass sexual humor, and expletive filled language. The language alone would nab Deadpool an R-rating.

From the categories the MPAA judges when handing out ratings, TDK doesn't even come close to an R-rating. It has nothing to do with Nolan pulling strings. It just rides the line. There is no blood, no foul language, and no sex or drugs. The only scene they might've looked at a bit, is the phone bomb scene, where they show the after surgery with the phone in the guy's belly. That was real close to something they might deem a bit too disturbing and grotesque for PG-13. The hanging scene might be up there too. On the whole though, it's a fairly typical PG-13 cut.

I'll admit it's been over a decade since I saw Silence of the Lambs but it's rated R and only truly has 1 real massive incident of on-screen violence that I can fully remember.

"I can smell your cunt" is an instant R-rating. There's also some very dark and disturbing imagery, like the autopsy scene, and when Foster finds that guy's severed head. It's a solid R-rating. Especially the whole Lecter escape sequence. Not only him savagely beating those cops up, but the whole stringing up the guy in the rafters, and wearing the dude's face. It's a pretty hardcore sequence.
