I've been to 3rd world countries in Central and South America where friends and family told me I'd be kidnapped, killed, etc. I've never experienced any hostility just for existing in any of them. People were friendly for the most part. Some cultural aspects I liked and some I didn't, but if you are respectful and at least give an effort to speak the language, it goes a long way.

You still can get fucked up but less of a chance from it being a cartel member like people think and more of a chance at being victim to some little thug or thief or crooked cop
As a non Spanish speaking tourist I have spent A LOT of time in Mexico over the years both in resorts locations and other areas (I even lived out there for 11 months at one point). I’m not speaking from a place of inexperience. It is not as dangerous as many people think that it is. Common sense goes a long way in any city and if you are looking for drugs then yea you can find them and often the dangers that come with that lifestyle.

The police corruption is real out there but they only rob you if you are found with illegal items or committing a crime. I have been robbed by the cops out there multiple times but it’s because I had a bunch of drugs on me lol so fair play. Since being sober for many years I have only had pleasant interactions with the federales ie if I’m speeding etc and get pulled over I give them 20$ and they let me on my way. I prefer it that way personally.

Maybe it’s just me but I like the fact that if something happens I can pay my way out of it down there…a great example is I was partying with some friends out there we got into a fight. When cops came my drunk friend punched a cop and head butted him. In the US he would do heavy jail time… there we gave the cops 1500$ and we went on our way (even though assaulting a cop is a big offense). It’s like the Wild West and I love it. As for cartels if you don’t fuck with them they don’t fuck with you. It actually dissuades petty thieves since the cartels run shit there and have to answer to them if they fuck with a tourist. It’s safer imo than most big cities in the US. Less disorganized crime… only organized.

As for the other positives Mexico is a beautiful country with amazing people. The women are gorgeous, the food is amazing and the culture is infectious.

I'm a 42 year old American and I thought that movie was hilarious.

I was actually working out of that town when Ali G came along initially and briefly when they film was released. It was funny as fuck that there were numerous youngsters who actually seemed to believe the bollocks Ali G was saying and that it was rough there, the irony went over their heads .... unfortunately I was in a job that had to deal with these prats everyday.

Odd as fuck though, seeing a place that you grew up around and spent a lot of time in on TV/ cinema like that.

Here are the top 10 for Murica:

5. Baton Rouge, LA 38.26

Mexico isn't bad if you visit the tourist locations like Cozumel, Cancun or Cabo. I've visited it many times to include Tijuana. I notice New Orleans is on the list and I've visited it as well as Baltimore. You just have to use commons sense and stay out of the bad parts of any city especially at night. Take the risk for the sexy Latinas and Good Food.
If you wanna try to fuck sexy Latinas while risking getting shot, you're much better off in Venezuela, much hotter women, and just as dangerous as Mexico.

Most Mexican girls are chunky and box shaped.

Same with many countries in Africa and the middle East. The only African country in that list is south Africa. There are many worse places in Africa than south Africa. South Africa is just one of the more developed countries there that is better at actually keeping records of stuff like this. Also these are just homicide rates, so deaths from terrorism and wars don't get included in these I don't believe
Yeah South Africa is tame compared to many other African countries . But South Africa actually keeps records. I wouldn't even put SA. In top 10 most dangerous African countries. Shocked Hati is only 20.

Man how TF Detroit still on there. As someone who lives here honestly doesn't feel as bad as it I'm used to be. I mean it's still got areas you don't wanna go but it's def on the rise.

Been to Mexico many times and it was always cool.... but 11 of the top 15? And what's up with my Nola? Got to do better than that

Me too. Went there a few years ago and it was one of the best experiences of my life. No concerns. Most of that is not tourists. If you aren't in a place you shouldn't be you are usually good

That surprised you? As a LA resident?
Baton Rouge is rough too, at least LSU's campus is mainly in the "nice" part.

We're number1!
We're number1!
We're number1!

... damn near every single year. And it's only a few hours to both KC and Memphis from here as well.

Only reason St. Louis isn't on the OP's list is enough people have finally abandoned the city to fall under 300k total population. It's bad enough the suburbs are dropping hard, too.

I spent 9 weeks in Cabo San Lucas this winter. I rented a condo and never felt unsafe, but it’s all about knowing where to go and which places to avoid.

I'm surprised Port Moresby isn't on there, but the numbers listed on that page for Port Moresby are way off. Population was just under half a million in 2022, not a quarter of a million, and I think they are only counting cities over 300,000.

Yeah I guess it's all about having common sense and just minding your own business kind of thing. But if you are looking for drugs for recreational use, how does that work? Can you get it from people working in the resorts?

That sounds quite nice actually. I too would probably prefer that.

I'm sure Mexico keeps sending its best ......... maybe it's best criminals. Seems the really bad places have a few things in common just saying.
