MMA in the Olympics?

Unlikely, between injuries and fighting multiple times in a short period the whole thing would quickly become a mess. Something like submission grappling would be a better fit.

It would be so watered down that most of us would be really meh about it
And not to be a dick, but theres so many hurdles to jump that it's practically idiotic to propose it. As someone already pointed out there isn't NEARLY enough MMA talent in various countries to have any level sort of playing field, then there's the fact that you'd have to make it a MASSIVE Grand Prix that would be a matchmaking nightmare, and also they would probably wear gear like Olympic boxing so it would be more like sparring, which means it would go to the judges a lot and MMA decisions can be quite subjective, even more so then boxing, so it would be a headache picking a winner.

Secondly many MMA fighters are simply not capable of presenting themselves in a PC manner which the Olympics basically require (not saying it's right for the Olympics to have those standards, it just is what it is). And there's many many more issues with MMA in the Olympics, not the least of which is that on a grand scale it would probably change the sport for the worse.

Pankration was a form of MMA and it was one of the ancient olympics original sporting contests. MMA is now a global sport, and it has a large following. So, is there a possibility mma could be introduced as an sport in the Olympics once again?

What other referees should we bring with us into the Olympic games?

Something like what the IMMAF is doing might be doable to be able to have several fights in a week

Well put. The Olympic committee's worst nightmare lol

They’d have to come up with a better scoring system than what we have now if they did. One of the biggest issues with the sport now is the flawed attempt at a balanced scoring of wrestling and submission grappling and strikes on the same playing field.

The advantage of an mma in Olympics vs PPV is they wouldn’t be restricted to rounds and time limits. They could make it 1 nonstop, no time limit match until somebody wins. To hell with judging or scoring or ref stoppages. Winner has to make them tap or make corner throw in towel.

Dana wouldn't let any of his stable do it. Would be cool to have an American dream team of UFC fighters.

The Russians would win gold every time similar to how Africans rule long distance running

Nah. Fighters would be too fucked up to go fight again in the same week.

They should bring tug of war back though. Much more fun to watch than break dancing.

Here's my Canadian take and experience with this...

I think like 2015 or something like that was the closest it got...

I remember there was talk of a Canadian team coming together...my gym was hoping to put through some contenders for qualifying...me being one of them...but it never materialized the apparent reasons where the proposed rules from the IOC basically made it not mix martial arts (there was going to no knees to the head standing or otherwise ,no elbows and rounds where to be 3 mins with only a certain amount of time alotted for ground work and then ud be stood up, headgear like boxing etc etc etc...basically not MMA.)..and the other reason was the other martial art IOC members said no or rejected its idea to join with them as a part of the combat sport section of the council because they thought it would take away athletes from their programs...Ie wrestlers , Boxers , Judokas ...

So it was scrapped ...

The end .

I think the International World MMA games is the closest we'll get...

Olympics are a sham now a days. they take away people's gold medals because they knock dudes out in TKD for fucks sake. they tried to eliminate WRESTLING of all sports while trying to add in E-SPORTS. the Olympic committee or whoever runs this shitshow is a joke.
I believe that was in karate where someone lost a match due to ko, tkd is full contact and allows ko’s even though you rarely see it anymore.

I'm quite positive the IOC is dumping boxing from the next Olympics, so no chance. Karate lasted just one Olympics.
